Chapter 8 - The Geneva Confrontation

The estate of Hector Vance sat on the shores of Lake Geneva, a stunning expanse of modern architecture that looked out over the cold, blue alpine waters. It was a place designed to look entirely detached from the blood and filth of the criminal enterprises that funded it.

On a crisp, mist-covered morning, Damian and Nola walked through the front gates, bypassing the automated security detail using a high-level diplomatic clearance that Clara had managed to manufacture through her connections in Washington.

Hector Vance was a man in his late fifties, looking refined as he sat on his glass terrace drinking espresso, completely unaware that his security network had been dismantled from the inside out. He stood up in surprise as Damian and Nola stepped onto the terrace, his face turning pale as he recognized the glacial gray eyes of the Chicago kingpin.

"Mr. Valdez," Hector said, his voice trembling slightly despite his attempts to remain composed. "This is a serious violation of international sovereignty. My security—"

"Your security is currently asleep in the guardroom, Hector," Damian said, sitting down smoothly in the empty chair across from him. He reached into his coat, placing a thick leather binder and a silver-plated fountain pen onto the table. "Your sister tried to kill my nephew last week. That action has brought me to your terrace. And it has ended your consortium’s access to the United States."

Nola stepped forward, opening the binder to reveal a comprehensive forensic ledger detailing forty years of Vanguard's illegal money laundering operations through the maritime bank.

"Every transaction, every corrupted politician in New York, every blood-stained dollar from the Marcone line is documented in here, Mr. Vance," Nola said, her voice a cold, steady chime that brooked no argument. "If you do not sign the absolute release forms for Leo’s trust and terminate your sister’s operational authority, this ledger will be delivered to the Swiss Federal Banking Authority and Interpol within the hour. Your family will lose everything—your estates, your bank, and your freedom."

Hector looked at the ledger, then at Damian, who sat there with the terrifying stillness of a panther waiting for the final strike. He realized that the old rules of corporate delays and legal maneuvers were useless against a man who had brought the raw, unyielding violence of the Chicago streets directly to his sanctuary.

"This will ruin us," Hector whispered, his hand shaking as he picked up the silver fountain pen.

"It keeps you alive," Damian replied softly. "That is the only concession I am willing to offer."

With a trembling hand, Hector Vance signed the documents, permanently relinquishing Vanguard’s claims to the midwestern shipping lines and sealing the legal sovereignty of the Valdez family fortune.
