Chapter 8 - The Execution

"Security! Remove these people!" Donald screamed, his smooth composure instantly shattering into wild panic. "Jason is clearly experiencing a mental breakdown! Security, clear the room!"
Not a single security guard moved. The lead head of venue security—a man Jason had personally paid for fifteen years—simply stepped back and crossed his arms.
I stepped onto the stage, pulling a sleek silver microphone from the podium stand.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," I said, my voice steady, resonant, and overflowing with power. "Five years ago, Donald Vance sat in this very room and announced that I had resigned from Sterling Energy due to personal reasons. Tonight, we are here to present the public record of what actually happened."
With a flick of my hand, Marcus operated the hotel's high-definition projection screens overhead.
Instantly, massive four-story displays lit up across the ballroom, displaying bank transaction logs, forged medical records, wiretap transcripts, and sworn affidavits from Brenda Miller and private investigator accounts.
The press went insane. Camera shutters clattered like machine-gun fire.
"Those are forged!" Donald shrieked, backing away from the podium, his eyes darting frantically toward the side exits. "This is a absurd smear campaign! Jason, you've lost your mind! She's manipulating you again!"
Jason vaulted onto the stage with effortless athletic grace, stepping directly into Donald’s path before he could reach the wings.
"Look at me, Donald," Jason commanded, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying register. "Look at the man whose life you tried to destroy."
Donald cowered, taking a step back until his lower back hit the head table, spilling glasses of champagne over his lap.
"Five years ago, you used my dead brother-in-law to trick me into divorcing my wife," Jason said, pulling a legal document from his inner tuxedo pocket and slapping it onto Donald’s chest. "You stole twenty-five percent of our company stock. You skimmed eighty million dollars through offshore accounts in Delaware. And yesterday, you tried to steal my wife's business."
"Jason... please..." Donald whimpered, his silver hair falling out of place, sweat dripping down his neck. "We're partners! I did what I did to protect the company's valuation! You were weak, Jason! You were going to let her give away equity!"
"I was weak because I trusted you," Jason barked. "But tonight, I am completely sober."
Detective Rodriguez stepped onto the stage, pulling a set of heavy steel handcuffs from her belt.
"Donald Vance," Detective Rodriguez announced over the main sound system. "You are under arrest for Federal Wire Fraud, Grand Larceny, Corporate Extortion, and Obstruction of Justice."
The troopers grabbed Donald’s arms, forcing him down onto his knees in front of his former billionaire peers, the press, and the live television cameras. The handcuffs clicked shut with a sharp, brutal finality.
As Donald was dragged off the stage, screaming curses at the ceiling, the entire ballroom erupted into an uproar.
Jason turned to me. The heavy corporate armor he had worn for a decade seemed to melt away, leaving only the raw, exposed heart of a man who had finally reclaimed his soul.
He reached out his hand to me in front of the world.
"Claire," he whispered. "Will you take the podium with me?"
May you like
I looked at his open palm, then at the cheering crowd, and finally into his eyes.
I took his hand.
