Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

One year later.

The sun shone brightly over the gardens of the Lake Forest estate. White roses filled the terrace, and classical music drifted softly on the warm summer breeze.

Two hundred guests were gathered on the lawn—not cartel bosses or shady operatives, but doctors, nurses, local politicians, and families who had been helped by the Elena Jenkins Foundation for Neonatal Care.

Over the past year, Gabriel had systematically dismantled his illegal operations, legitimate investments, and criminal ties, transitioning his family’s immense wealth into legal infrastructure, international shipping, and medical philanthropy.

In the center of the terrace stood a podium, where Elena stood wearing an elegant burgundy dress.

beside her was an incubator—not a real one, but a bronze statue commemorating the day she saved Leo.

Behind her, playing on the grass with a golden retriever puppy, was Leo. He was a chubby, energetic fourteen-month-old toddler with bright blue eyes and a infectious laugh, running around without a care in the world.

Isabella sat in a chair nearby, glowing with health and happiness, watching her son play.

Elena stepped up to the microphone, smiling at the crowd.

"Two years ago," Elena said, her voice clear and filled with emotion, "I was a burnt-out nurse carrying $45,000 in debt, working in a system that often forgot that behind every chart is a human life."

She looked toward the front row, where Gabriel sat in a tailored grey suit, watching her with deep, undeniable love.

"I learned that breaking the rules isn't about rebellion," Elena continued. "It’s about standing up for what is right when everyone else is too afraid to act. Today, the Elena Jenkins Foundation has funded neonatal care for over five thousand premature infants across the country."

The crowd erupted into deafening applause.

As the ceremony concluded and guests moved toward the buffet, Gabriel walked up the terrace steps, coming to stand beside Elena.

He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close against his side.

"You built an empire of hope, my love," Gabriel whispered into her ear.

"We built it," Elena corrected, resting her head against his shoulder. "Together."

Gabriel reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. He turned Elena to face him, taking her hands in his.

"Elena," Gabriel said softly, his dark eyes shining with tears. "You saved my nephew. You saved my soul. You showed a man who lived in darkness what true light looks like."

He dropped to one knee on the marble terrace.

The crowd gasped softly, falling into a respectful silence.

Gabriel opened the box, revealing a breathtaking five-carat oval diamond ring that shimmered like starlight.

"Elena Jenkins," Gabriel declared, his voice ringing out across the garden. "Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Will you let me love you, protect you, and stand by your side for the rest of my life?"

Elena covered her mouth with both hands, tears of overwhelming joy streaming down her cheeks.

She looked at Leo, who was giggling as he ran toward them, clapping his tiny hands. She looked at Isabella, who was nodding through happy tears.

And then she looked down at Gabriel—the man who had bought a hospital for her, fought a war for her, and given up a dark empire just to be worthy of her heart.

"Yes," Elena wept, smiling through her tears. "Yes, Gabriel! A thousand times yes!"

Gabriel stood up, sliding the diamond ring onto her finger before pulling her into his arms and kissing her deeply as the crowd erupted into thunderous cheers and applause.
