Chapter 10 - The Lullaby of Light

Six months later. Spring 2026.

A small, private wedding was held on the high cliffs overlooking the turquoise ocean behind the estate.

There were no mob bosses, no heavily armed guards, no camera flashes, and no dark secrets. Only a few close friends—including Luca, who was now the head of Mateo's legitimate security firm, and Nurse Nina—attended the ceremony.

I wore a simple, elegant lace gown, holding a bouquet of white roses.

As Mateo and I exchanged our vows under a canopy of blooming cherry blossoms, I realized that every fear my mother had taught me, every warning about the dragon, had brought me to this exact moment. The dragon on Mateo’s skin was no longer a symbol of death and fear; it was a mark of protection, strength, and unwavering love for his family.

That evening, the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of pink, gold, and purple.

I sat in the nursery's rocking chair by the open window, holding Leo as he drifted off to sleep. He was wearing a tiny white pajama suit, his soft blond hair resting against my chest.

Mateo walked into the room quietly, wearing his silk robe, and leaned against the rocking chair, placing his arm around my shoulders.

I began to sing the old family lullaby softly:

"Sleep now, my sweet one, the ocean is calm, Held in the warmth of a mother’s gentle arm. The shadows have vanished, the starlight is bright, Welcome my darling, home to the light..."

Leo let out a long, peaceful sigh, his little fingers loosening their grip on my dress as he sank into deep, restful slumber.

Mateo leaned down, pressing his lips softly against my forehead, then kissed the top of Leo’s head.

"Thank you, Mara," Mateo whispered into the quiet night.

"For what?" I asked, looking up at him with a warm smile.

"For answering my son's call," Mateo said gently, taking my hand and holding it tight in his. "For teaching us how to love again."

I looked out the window at the peaceful ocean, feeling the solid weight of my husband’s hand and the warm breath of our child against my chest.

The story that had begun with fear, blood, and a baby reaching out across a crowded restaurant had finally reached its true ending.
