Chapter 7 - The Trial of Corporate Warfare

While the physical threats had been neutralized, the corporate fallout of Matteo’s defection began to leak into the legitimate world. On Monday morning, Moretti Global Shipping’s board of directors called an emergency meeting at the glass tower overlooking the Chicago River.

Three major institutional investors—corrupt billionaires who had secretly funded Matteo’s black-market operations—had filed an emergency injunction with the SEC, claiming that Dominic Moretti was using corporate logistics lines to launder syndicate funds, utilizing the stolen encryption codes Matteo had leaked before his capture.

Dominic strode into the grand boardroom on the 80th floor, his presence instantly silencing the thirty executives and high-priced corporate attorneys seated around the massive mahogany table. He wore a flawless charcoal suit, his ice-blue eyes scanning the room with a lethal, confident precision.

"Mr. Moretti," the lead attorney for the investors said, rising with a smug, condescending smile. "The data leaked from your primary terminal is undeniable. Moretti Global is looking at a federal asset freeze within forty-eight hours unless you step down as CEO and hand over voting control to the board's designated committee."

"The data is a forgery," a clear, authoritative voice announced from the boardroom entrance.

The executives turned in shock.

Elena walked into the room, dressed in an elegant, sophisticated navy blazer and tailored trousers, her dark hair brushed sleekly back. She carried a secure digital terminal connected directly to Moretti Global’s master mainframe. Behind her stood Gabriel Russo and two federal forensic auditors from the Department of Justice.

"Five years ago, I was the head of corporate compliance for this company," Elena said, her voice echoing with an absolute, unshakeable confidence as she took her place beside Dominic at the head of the table. "Before Matteo Moretti forced me out of this city, I installed a secondary, encrypted ledger—a black box archive that records every modification made to our shipping manifests from an external IP address."

She plugged the terminal into the central projector screen. The monitor lit up, displaying lines of data that clearly showed Matteo Moretti and the three investors in the room manually altering the shipping files from a private server located in Gary, Indiana, three hours after Dominic had already cut Matteo’s primary access codes.

"This data proves that the money laundering was entirely orchestrated by the dissenting board members to stage a hostile corporate takeover," Elena stated flatly, looking at the lead investor whose face had gone completely gray. "The federal auditors behind me have already signed the warrants. Gentlemen, your assets are frozen, and your badges are revoked."

The three investors stood up in a panic, but Moretti security men immediately stepped through the doors, blocking their exits as the federal agents moved forward with handcuffs.

Dominic looked at Elena, his face breaking into a rare, brilliant smile of absolute triumph. He reached under the table, gripping her hand tightly, his knuckles locking with hers. The corporate empire was secure, and his wife had just proved she was the true queen of the Moretti legacy.
