Chapter 5 - The Penthouse Infiltration

The storm hit Chicago at 4:30 AM, a blinding gale of freezing rain and sleet that turned the streets into treacherous sheets of ice. Perfect weather for a ghost operation.

Dominic and six of his most elite enforcers, dressed in completely blacked-out tactical gear without identification patches, slipped through the rusted iron grates of the old Chicago utility tunnels beneath the Starlight Casino. Following the blueprint data Elena had pulled from her old records, they bypassed the building’s primary security sensors, climbing up a narrow, hidden access ladder built inside the reinforced concrete core of the central vault elevator shaft.

When they reached the top floor, Dominic used a hydraulic cutter to silently slice through the steel hinges of the penthouse kitchen’s pantry access hatch. One by one, the Moretti strike team poured into the room like shadows emerging from the dark.

The penthouse was silent, decorated in garish gold and white marble, smelling heavily of expensive cigars and imported brandy. Standing near the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the stormy city skyline were two men.

Victor Colombo, an aging, bloated mafia boss with a scarred cheek, was pouring a glass of scotch. Standing beside him, looking frantic as he reviewed a tablet of stolen shipping manifests, was Matteo Moretti.

"We have the routing numbers for the European distribution lines, Victor," Matteo said, a greedy, treacherous grin cutting across his wrinkled face. "Dominic won't even realize he’s broke until the international courts freeze his corporate assets on Monday. The kid was soft. He spent five years crying over a dead girl instead of running the family like a true Don."

"He wasn't soft, Matteo," a deep, chilling voice rumbled from the kitchen doorway. "He was just waiting for the rats to show their faces."

Matteo spun around, the tablet slipping from his fingers and shattering against the marble floor. Victor Colombo lunged for the gold-plated pistol sitting on his desk, but Gabriel Russo fired a single, precise shot from his silenced weapon, tearing through Victor’s wrist and sending the gun flying into the corner.

The four Colombo bodyguards in the hallway tried to breach the room, but Dominic’s enforcers intercepted them with a rapid, professional efficiency, dropping them to the floor with non-lethal concussive rounds before they could raise an alarm.

Dominic strode into the center of the penthouse, his heavy tactical boots clicking loudly against the marble. He removed his balaclava, revealing his pale blue eyes burning with an absolute, terrifying malice that made his uncle drop to his knees in instant, weeping terror.

"Dominic... please," Matteo stammered, raising his hands in supplication. "It was for the family! I did it to protect the lineage! Elena was a distraction! You were losing your edge!"

Dominic reached down, his massive, gloved hand gripping Matteo by his expensive silk tie, lifting the older man off the floor until his toes were barely scraping the ground.

"You stole five years of my children's lives, Matteo," Dominic whispered, his voice so quiet it was colder than the sleet striking the glass windows outside. "You made them think their father was a corpse. You made my wife live in poverty while you spent my money on gold chairs. You aren't my family, Matteo. You're just a cancer I forgot to excise."

He slammed Matteo into the concrete pillar, turning to Gabriel. "Secure them both. Take them to the Blacksite in Lemont. The Colombo syndicate belongs to us now. Victor, you will sign over your territory by noon, or your entire family disappears from the face of this earth."
