Chapter 7 - The Breach

The red emergency lights flashed through the hallways, casting long, crimson shadows across the walls. The piercing shriek of the security alarm shattered the quiet night.

Instantly, the vulnerable man standing before Hannah vanished. Lorenzo was replaced in a fraction of a second by the cold, tactical predator. He pulled a concealed Glock 19 from his waist holster before the alarm had even finished its first cycle.

"Stay behind me!" Lorenzo commanded, his voice sharp as a razor.

The oak doors of the dining suite burst open, and Marcus, the head of security, rushed in, his tactical vest fastened, an assault rifle held at high ready. Blood was trickling down the side of his temple.

"Boss! We have a breach at the west gate!" Marcus reported quickly, his eyes scanning the perimeter of the room. "Multiple armed intruders. High-grade thermal suppressors and explosive charges. They blew the main power grid—we are on emergency generator backups!"

"Who is it?" Lorenzo demanded, grabbing Hannah by the arm and shoving her behind his back as he pulled her toward the inner nursery where Leo was sleeping.

"It’s the Moretti syndicate," Marcus spat, wiping blood from his eye. "Sophia’s uncle. He found out the baby survived the bombing. He’s here to finish the bloodline before the estate inheritance defaults to you permanently!"

Lorenzo’s eyes turned to liquid nitrogen. "Julian Moretti. I should have buried that bastard six months ago."

Leo began to cry from his crib, terrified by the loud wailing of the sirens and the flashing red lights. Hannah broke away from Lorenzo’s grip and sprinted into the nursery, lifting the baby into her arms, holding him tightly against her chest, wrapping him in a heavy Kevlar-lined blanket that was stored beneath the crib for emergency evacuations.

"We need to get to the safe room in the sublevel!" Marcus urged. "They’ve breached the main foyer! We’re losing guards!"

"No," Lorenzo said, his brain calculating entry and exit points at lightning speed. "They know about the sublevel safe room. That’s where they’ll trap us. Marcus, take team B and choke the main staircase. Cover the south corridor. I’m taking Hannah and Leo out through the cliffside tunnel."

"Boss, the cliff path is narrow! If you get pinned down there—"

"I won't," Lorenzo snapped. He turned to Hannah, his eyes burning with an intense, absolute command. "Look at me, Hannah."

Hannah looked at him, her body shaking as gunshots began to echo from the grand staircase down the hall. Heavy automatic rifle fire tore through the silence of the mansion, accompanied by the shattering of glass and the shouts of dying men.

"You hold him," Lorenzo said, gripping her shoulder so tightly it hurt. "You keep him quiet. No matter what happens, no matter what you see or hear, you do not let go of my son. Do you understand me?"

"I won't let go," Hannah promised, her voice steadying through sheer willpower. "I swear to you, Lorenzo. I won't let go."

"Good," Lorenzo said. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, sleek silver key card, pressing it into her palm. "If I get separated from you, run to the boathouse at the end of the tunnel. Use this to start the speedboat. Drive straight out toward the open sea and hit the red emergency transponder on the console. My coast guard contacts will pick you up."

"Lorenzo, no! You're coming with us!" she cried out.

"I’m leading them away from the tunnel entrance," Lorenzo said, his lips curling into a dark, terrifying smile as he checked the magazine of his pistol. "Julian Moretti came here for my blood. I’m going to make sure he drinks it."

Before Hannah could protest, Lorenzo grabbed her hand and dragged her down the hidden servant’s passageway behind the nursery bookshelf, plunging them into the cold, concrete subterranean tunnels carved deep into the ocean cliffs.
