Chapter 3 - The Predator Awakens

Richard Vance froze, one foot hovering over the Persian rug in the foyer. The carefully practiced expression of corporate concern on his face twisted into an ugly mask of sheer shock and panic.

"V-Victor?" Richard stammered, his eyes darting frantically from Victor’s bruised shoulder to Amelia standing defensively at the end of the hallway. "Good God, man... we heard a crash from the driveway. Are you alright? We thought you were—"

"Dead?" Victor finished the sentence for him, his voice low, gravelly, and dripping with a cold, lethal venom that caused the seasoned executive to pale visibly.

Victor stood slowly to his full height of six-foot-four, shaking off the residual numbness in his limbs. He didn't look like a man who had just taken a devastating fall down a flight of marble stairs. He looked like an apex predator whose den had just been violated.

"I'm remarkably resilient, Richard," Victor said, taking a slow, deliberate step forward across the marble floor. Every movement was controlled, calculated, terrifying. "Though I must admit, you arrived remarkably fast for someone who was supposedly attending a regional logistics meeting across town."

Richard swallowed hard, his throat bobbing visibly as he tried to regain his corporate composure. He adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, forcing a brittle smile. "I... I was reviewing the shipping manifests in my car outside when I heard the commotion, Victor. Let's not be irrational. You took a nasty fall. You need medical attention."

"Medical attention?" Victor let out a short, humorless laugh that sounded like a gunshot in the cavernous foyer. He stopped three feet away from Richard, towering over him, his dark eyes locked onto the COO's sweating brow. "No, Richard. What I need is absolute clarity. And you're going to give it to me."

Down the hallway, Amelia stood frozen, holding the twins tightly against her chest. She watched Victor with wide, disbelieving eyes. He wasn't the broken, grieving father she had pitied moments ago. He was the ruthless billionaire titan of industry—the man who swallowed corporate rivals whole. And for the first time, that terrifying power wasn't directed outward at the world.

It was directed entirely at the people who had dared to threaten her and his children.

"Pack your files, Richard," Victor whispered, his voice dangerously soft. "And by files, I mean every illicit communication you've had with my father-in-law, every backdoor deal you've tried to broker with my competitors, and every piece of corporate espionage you've funneled through outside agencies."

Richard’s face drained of every trace of color. He opened his mouth, but no sound came out. The trap had sprung, and he was caught dead to rights.

"You have twenty minutes before I hand my private security detail the flash drive containing your entire digital footprint," Victor continued, his gaze unwavering. "If you aren't off this property by then, I won't just fire you. I’ll make sure you spend the rest of your natural life eating prison food behind maximum-security glass."

Without another word, Richard Vance turned on his heel and fled through the front doors, practically tripping over his own feet in his desperate bid to escape.
