Chapter 7 - The Quiet After the Storm

With the legal chaos behind them, the Hawthorne estate finally became a home. Richard sold the massive mansion, realizing it held too many echoes of the pain they had endured. They moved to a sprawling, warm farmhouse in the countryside, where the boys could run free and be children without the pressure of the Hawthorne legacy.
Richard was a different man. He grew a beard, wore jeans, and spent his days teaching the boys how to build birdhouses and plant gardens. He was present for every milestone, every scraped knee, and every whispered secret.
One evening, while sitting on the porch watching the sunset, Richard turned to Emily. They had spent months rebuilding the family, and their bond had grown into something profound and unspoken.
"I don't know where I would be without you," Richard said, his voice thick with emotion. "I would have lost them. And I would have been a shell of a man, surrounded by gold but empty inside."
