Chapter 6 - The Legal Siege

The legal battle turned into a war of attrition. Victoria’s lawyers were relentless, using every dirty trick in the book. But they hadn't counted on Emily.
During her three years in the mansion, Emily hadn't just been a housekeeper. She had been a meticulous observer. She had kept a private diary of every incident, every conversation, and every suspicious transaction she had witnessed involving Victoria.
"Here," Emily said, handing a thumb drive to Richard’s legal team. "She thought she was deleting everything, but I made copies. I kept records of her phone calls, her meetings with the people who were helping her embezzle from your accounts, and the names of the people she hired to harass me."
The evidence was overwhelming. It wasn't just enough to clear Richard; it was enough to put Victoria behind bars for a decade.
The courtroom was a circus, but when Emily took the stand, the entire room fell silent. She spoke with such grace, such unyielding truth, that even the judge, a notoriously hard-nosed woman, seemed moved.

"I didn't work for a billionaire," Emily told the jury. "I worked for three little boys who needed a mother. And when they were in danger, I didn't care about my job or my reputation. I only cared about their lives. Richard Hawthorne made mistakes, but he is a man who learned how to love his children more than his pride. Can we say the same for the defendant?"
The verdict was swift. Victoria Lane was sentenced to twelve years in prison for extortion, embezzlement, and child abuse.
