Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Execution

The headquarters of the Carranza Group was a soaring skyscraper of black glass and steel in the center of the financial district. The top-floor boardroom offered a panoramic view of the city—a view that felt like an executioner’s block to Isabel Vargas as she sat at the massive mahogany table, flanked by her sweat-drenched corporate lawyers.
The double doors swung open, and the room fell into a dead, tense silence.
Matthew Carranza entered first, his presence commanding the space instantly. But it was the woman walking beside him that caused Isabel’s breath to rattle in her throat.
Elena walked with a grace and confidence that seemed entirely alien to the girl Isabel had locked in a dark bedroom forty-eight hours ago. She was wearing a perfectly tailored emerald-green silk suit, her hair styled in an elegant, professional updo. The dark bruise on her cheek was artfully concealed with makeup, but her eyes were bare—and they were completely devoid of fear.
"Elena," Isabel whispered, her voice a mix of desperate sweetness and underlying venom. "Darling... thank God you're safe. We were so worried about you after you ran out into the storm. You must understand, what happened the other night... it was a complete misunderstanding. Your uncle and I were just trying to secure your future..."
"Save your breath, Isabel," Elena said, her voice cutting through the room with a razor-like precision that shocked even her stepmother’s lawyers. She took her seat directly across from Isabel, leaning forward with her hands folded neatly on the glass table. "The time for your lies is over. You didn't care about my future. You tried to sell my body to a predator to cover up your embezzlement of my father’s company."
Isabel’s face turned an ugly, mottled red. "How dare you speak to me like that! I raised you! I spent millions on your education, your clothes, your lifestyle! You owe me everything!"
"According to the forensic financial audit my husband’s team completed last night," Elena countered smoothly, sliding a thick leather folder across the table, "you didn't spend a single dime of your own money on me. You systematically drained my biological mother’s private trust fund to finance your own luxury lifestyle, luxury cars, and failing investments. You committed grand larceny, identity theft, and corporate fraud. And that’s before we even bring in the criminal charges for unlawful confinement and physical assault."
Isabel’s lead lawyer quickly opened the folder, his eyes scanning the certified bank records, transaction logs, and the sworn affidavit from the security guards who had witnessed Isabel striking Elena on the night of the party. The lawyer's face drained of color. He leaned over and whispered into Isabel’s ear, "We're done. They have everything. If this goes to a federal grand jury, you're looking at twenty years minimum."
Isabel sank back into her chair, her aristocratic poise completely disintegrating. She looked at Matthew Carranza, who sat silently beside his wife, watching the execution with a cold, detached satisfaction.
"What do you want?" Isabel hissed, her voice trembling with a mixture of defeat and pure hatred.
Matthew finally spoke, his voice low and lethal. "We want your total, unconditional surrender, Mrs. Vargas. You will sign over the remaining fifty-one percent of Vargas Logistics to Elena for the nominal sum of one dollar. You will vacate the Vargas estate by noon tomorrow, leaving behind all property, art, and vehicles, which were purchased using Elena’s inherited funds. And you will sign a permanent restraining order, forfeiting any right to ever approach or contact my wife again."
"And if I refuse?" Isabel snarled, her eyes flashing with a desperate, dying defiance.
May you like
"If you refuse," Elena said, her voice ringing with the absolute power of her new reality, "the federal warrants for your arrest will be executed before you even reach the lobby of this building. You can either walk out of this room a bankrupt civilian, or you can leave it in handcuffs. The choice is yours, stepmother."
Isabel stared at her stepdaughter, realizing with a sickening finality that the girl she had broken, abused, and exploited for a decade had just completely destroyed her. With a shaking, trembling hand, Isabel reached for the silver fountain pen provided by Matthew's legal team and signed her name on the lines, officially stripping herself of her wealth, her power, and her freedom.
