Chapter 8 - A Different Kind of Celebration

The date that was originally set for Michael and Olivia’s three-hundred-person luxury wedding arrived three weeks later.
There were no ice sculptures, no celebrity caterers, and no pretentious country club guests.
Instead, the Miller family hosted a celebration of a completely different kind in the grand gardens of the Buckhead estate.
It was a foundation launch party for the newly established Linda Miller Vocational Scholarship Fund—a ten-million-dollar charity designed to provide full college and vocational scholarships to working-class household staff, janitors, and service workers across Georgia.
Over two hundred guests attended, but they were not the arrogant elites Olivia had favored. They were local nurses, teachers, community leaders, service workers, and their families.
Linda stood at the podium near the rose garden, wearing an elegant dark navy dress, looking radiant and deeply proud.
"Twenty-five years ago," Linda spoke into the microphone, her voice steady and clear, "I walked through the back doors of wealthy homes with a mop in my hand and bleach burning my palms. I worked to give my son a future where he would never have to worry about where his next meal came from."
She looked at Michael, who stood near the front row, smiling warmly.
"I taught my son that a person’s true worth is never found in the car they drive, the house they live in, or the title on their business card. It is found in how they treat those who can do nothing for them in return."
The crowd applauded thunderously.
"Today," Linda continued, "we honor those who perform honest labor. We honor those who keep our hospitals clean, our homes safe, and our families cared for. And our very first scholarship recipient is a young woman who embodies strength, grace, and unwavering integrity... Sophie Turner!"
Sophie, wearing a beautiful dark blue dress that Linda had personally bought for her, stepped up to the stage amidst deafening cheers.
Ethan stood near the front, clapping so hard his hands turned red, shouting, "That’s my sister!"

As Sophie accepted the scholarship certificate, she caught Michael’s eye in the crowd. She mouthed two simple words: Thank you.
Michael gave her a warm nod, whispering back: You earned it.
