Chapter 5 – “The Fall of Bianca Bellini”

The moment I saw Luca’s photograph, something inside me changed.
Fear was there.
Of course it was.
I was not a soldier.
I was not a woman raised around violence.
I was a caretaker.
A mother.
A woman who spent her life healing wounds instead of creating them.
But every person has a limit.
And mine had a name.
Luca.
My son.
The little boy who used to fall asleep holding my hand because he was afraid of thunderstorms.
The little boy who saved half of his cookies for me because he said adults needed happiness too.
The little boy who had no idea that the world could be cruel.
And I would do anything to keep it that way.
I folded the photograph carefully.
Not because I was calm.
Because I needed to be.
Panic made people careless.
And whoever sent that message wanted me afraid.
They wanted me to run.
They wanted me to make mistakes.
I would give them nothing.
Nico found me in the hallway.
One look at my face and he knew something was wrong.
“What happened?”
I said nothing.
I handed him the photograph.
The transformation was immediate.
The man disappeared.
The mafia boss returned.
His eyes became cold.
His jaw tightened.
“Where did you get this?”
“It was delivered.”
“When?”
“Ten minutes ago.”
His hand closed around the paper.
“Who saw it?”
“Nobody.”
“Who delivered it?”
“I don’t know.”
He turned toward the guards.
“Lock down the mansion.”
They moved instantly.
But I grabbed his arm.
“Nico.”
He looked at me.
For a moment, he seemed surprised.
Not many people touched him.
Not many people dared.
But I did not care.
“Don’t make this about revenge.”
His eyes narrowed.
“They threatened your son.”
“I know.”
“Then you understand.”
“Yes.”
I held his gaze.
“But if you lose control, whoever did this wins.”
The hallway became silent.
The guards looked away.
Nobody spoke to Nico Bellini like that.
But he didn't get angry.
Instead...
he listened.
That frightened me more.
Because powerful people who never listened were predictable.
Powerful people who learned were dangerous.
An hour later, I was on my way to call Luca.
But before I could, my phone rang.
A number I didn't recognize.
My heart stopped.
I answered.
“Hello?”
No response.
Only breathing.
Then a child's voice.
“Aunt Sophia?”
My entire body froze.
“Luca?”
“Are you coming home today?”
I closed my eyes.
Relief.
Pure relief.
“Sweetheart, where are you?”
“I’m at school.”
I looked at Nico.
His expression changed.
He immediately signaled to his security team.
Tracking.
“Are you alone?”
“No.”
A pause.
“Teacher is here.”
I breathed again.
Then Luca asked:
“Why do you sound scared?”
Children always knew.
They didn't understand everything.
But they felt everything.
“I’m not scared.”
Another lie.
A lie mothers told when they wanted to protect their children.
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“Promise?”
I smiled despite everything.
“Promise.”
After we hung up, Nico spoke.
“That was not the person who sent the photo.”
I looked at him.
“How do you know?”
“Because they wanted you to believe your son was in danger.”
He looked at the phone.
“But they didn’t take him.”
“Why?”
“Because they’re not trying to hurt him.”
My stomach tightened.
“What are they trying to do?”
Nico looked at me.
“They’re trying to control you.”
That evening, the Bellini mansion became a fortress.
More guards.
More cameras.
More security.
But I learned something about dangerous situations.
More protection did not always mean more safety.
Sometimes it meant someone was getting desperate.
And desperate people made mistakes.
Donna Elena was the first person I visited.
When she saw my face, she knew.
I didn't need to explain.
She reached for my hand.
Then she wrote:
Luca?
I nodded.
“He’s safe.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
Then she wrote:
I AM SORRY.
Again.
I gently took the board away.
“No more apologies.”
She looked at me.
“You spent twenty years protecting Nico.”
I smiled sadly.
“Now let us protect you.”
Her hands stopped.
Because nobody had ever said that to her.
Nobody had ever told her she deserved protection.
That night, Nico discovered the first real clue.
It came from the security system.
Someone had accessed the mansion remotely.
Not recently.
For months.
Someone had been watching.
Listening.
Learning.
“The cameras.”
I stood beside him in the security room.
“What about them?”
“They weren't hacked yesterday.”
He pointed to the screen.
“They were slowly compromised over time.”
“How long?”
He looked at the data.
“Six months.”
My heart sank.
Six months.
The exact time Bianca’s behavior had changed.
The exact time she started preparing to marry him.
“Bianca.”
Nico nodded.
“But she wasn't alone.”
The screen showed access records.
One name appeared repeatedly.
Not Bianca.
Not a servant.
A man.
Adrian Voss.
I looked at Nico.
“Who is he?”
For the first time that night...
Nico looked uncertain.
“My father’s closest advisor.”
I froze.
“The man who died?”
“No.”
His voice became darker.
“The man everyone thought disappeared.”
Adrian Voss.
A name from the past.
A man who had been trusted by Nico’s father.
A man who knew every secret of the Bellini family.
A man who vanished after the murder.
Everyone assumed he had been killed.
But he had not.
He had been hiding.
Waiting.
Planning.
And Bianca had been his weapon.
“She’s not the mastermind.”
Nico said quietly.
I looked at him.
“She’s a victim?”
“No.”
His answer came immediately.
“She chose this.”
He paused.
“But she was manipulated.”
I thought about Bianca.
The cruelty.
The arrogance.
The hatred.
And somehow, I understood.
A person could be both.
A person could hurt others because they were hurt.
That did not excuse what they did.
But it explained it.
The next morning, we found Bianca.
Not because she wanted to be found.
Because Adrian made a mistake.
The abandoned warehouse was outside the city.
Cold.
Empty.
The kind of place where people disappeared.
Nico went with his men.
I was supposed to stay behind.
But Donna Elena stopped me.
She held my hand.
Then signed:
GO.
I shook my head.
“No.”
She looked at me.
YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE SHE WILL TALK TO.
She was right.
I hated that she was right.
When we entered the warehouse, Bianca was sitting alone.
No guards.
No weapons.
Just a woman who looked exhausted.
The perfect image was gone.
Her hair was messy.
Her expensive dress had been replaced with simple clothes.
For the first time, she looked human.
Nico stepped forward.
“Where is Adrian?”
Bianca laughed softly.
“You think I know?”
“You worked with him.”
“I thought I did.”
Her voice cracked.
“I thought he wanted justice.”
Nico stared.
“And now?”
She looked at him.
“Now I know he wanted revenge.”
Silence.
“Why did you marry me?”
The question seemed to hurt her.
Not because she regretted it.
Because she finally had to answer.
“Because my whole life, I was told your family destroyed mine.”
She looked down.
“My father told me your mother killed my father.”
Donna Elena’s face appeared in my mind.
The woman who could barely sleep because of old memories.
“He lied.”
Bianca whispered:
“I know.”
Nico froze.
“You know?”
She nodded.
“I found documents.”
“Then why continue?”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Because by then I had already become someone I hated.”
Nobody spoke.
Then a gunshot echoed.
Everyone dropped.
The bullet hit the wall behind Bianca.
Adrian.
He was above us.
Watching.
Waiting.
“You disappoint me, Bianca.”
Her face turned white.
“Father?”
The voice that answered was not warm.
Not loving.
Cold.
“You were supposed to destroy them.”
Nico looked up.
“Adrian Voss.”
A laugh.
“Still protecting your family, Nikico?”
The guards moved.
But Adrian disappeared.
Not before leaving one final message.
A recording played through the warehouse speakers.
A voice.
Nico’s father.
But different.
Afraid.
“If you hear this… it means Adrian betrayed me.”
Nico froze.
The recording continued.
“He was never my friend.”
The world stopped.
“He was the one who ordered the attack.”
Silence.
Then:
“He is the reason I died.”
Everything changed in that moment.
Because for twenty years...
the Bellini family had been fighting the wrong enemy.
Alessandro Vieri.
Bianca.
Outside rivals.
All distractions.
The real monster had been standing in the shadows.
Waiting.
Adrian Voss.
And now he knew something.
He knew we had the truth.
Back at the mansion, Bianca sat across from Donna Elena.
Two women connected by the same tragedy.
Two women who had been manipulated by the same man.
Donna Elena looked at her.
Then slowly signed:
YOU WERE USED.
Bianca looked away.
“I hurt you.”
Donna Elena nodded.
YES.
Bianca cried silently.
“But you still forgive me?”
Donna Elena stared at her.
Then wrote:
FORGIVENESS DOES NOT ERASE WHAT YOU DID.
A pause.
BUT HATRED WILL NOT HEAL YOU.
For the first time...
Bianca broke.
Not dramatically.
Not like in movies.
Quietly.
Like someone who had carried anger for too long and finally became too tired to hold it.
That night, Nico found me outside.
“You were right.”
I smiled slightly.
“About what?”
“Revenge.”
I looked at him.
“If I had gone after Bianca without thinking…”
He looked toward the mansion.
“I would have destroyed someone who was also trapped.”
I nodded.
“But Adrian is different.”
His expression hardened.
“Yes.”
“He is not a victim.”
“No.”
He looked at me.
“He is the person who started everything.”
A cold wind passed.
Then he said:
“Tomorrow, I end this.”
I looked at him.
“Not revenge.”
He smiled faintly.
“You really don't let me forget that.”
“No.”
“Why?”
I thought about Donna Elena.
About Luca.
About all the people who had been hurt by one man's obsession.
“Because someone has to remind you that you are still human.”
For a moment, Nico said nothing.
Then quietly:
“Thank you, Sophia.”
It was the first time he said my name like it mattered.
Not like an employee.
Not like a caretaker.
Like someone he trusted.
But neither of us knew...
Adrian Voss had one final move.
And the next morning, when the Bellini mansion woke up...
Donna Elena was gone.
No guards injured.
No alarms triggered.
No evidence.
Only one message left behind.
Written on the wall.
May you like
Three words.
COME FIND ME.
