Chapter 6 - The Unraveling Syndicate

Carmine Moretti’s limousine didn't make it past the front gates of the ironworks. Nina and her squad had shot out the tires, trapping the elderly crime boss inside his bulletproof steel cage.

When Lorenzo stepped out of the ironworks, holding his daughter wrapped warmly inside his dry wool overcoat, his expression was no longer that of a grieving father. It was the face of an absolute emperor returning to reclaim his throne with blood and fire.

Nina walked up, securing her rifle. "Moretti is locked inside the car. He’s calling his lawyers and the district attorney."

"Break the glass," Lorenzo ordered softly, keeping his daughter’s ears covered against the sound.

Nina took a heavy steel sledgehammer from the back of her truck and shattered the reinforced driver's window. Lorenzo walked up to the open door, looking down at the cowering Don Carmine Moretti.

"Lorenzo... listen to me!" Moretti pleaded, pressing himself against the leather seats, holding up hands covered in gold rings. "This was a business dispute! We can make a deal! I’ll surrender the docks! I’ll give you seventy percent of the construction rackets!"

"You involved my family, Carmine," Lorenzo said, his voice flat and devoid of humanity. "You took my wife. You stole my daughter. You turned my home into a warzone."

"I didn't order Isabella's death!" Moretti yelled, sweat dripping off his jowls. "The car crash was supposed to just capture them both! Isabella fought back! The car went off the cliff by accident! I swear on my mother’s soul!"

Lorenzo stared at him for a long, agonizing moment. "That doesn't change a single thing."

Lorenzo looked at Nina. "Bring him to the warehouse at Pier 42. Lock him in the basement. I have an empire to clean up before sunrise."

Within hours, the underworld of New York erupted into chaos.

Lorenzo didn't sleep. Holding his daughter—whom he officially named Isabella, after her mother—in a secure, underground compound guarded by fifty of his most loyal, vetted soldiers, he launched a full-scale purge of the five boroughs.

Every lieutenant who had shown disloyalty, every captain who had taken bribes from the Moretti family, and every corrupt official who had helped cover up the vehicular incident eight months ago was hunted down. Marco, proven utterly loyal after defending Sophia and little Emma at the mansion, led the tactical squads, executing Lorenzo’s commands with terrifying precision.

By dawn, the Moretti crime family was completely dismantled. Its capos were either in federal custody or had fled the country. The power vacuum was filled instantly and violently by the DeLuca flag.

At 7:00 AM, Lorenzo sat in the master study of his secondary estate in Long Island. The sun was rising over the Atlantic Ocean, casting golden light across the polished oak furniture.

On his lap sat baby Isabella, happily drinking from a bottle. Sitting across from him, sipping tea with shaking hands, was Sophia Rossi, along with her three-year-old daughter, Emma.

Lorenzo looked at the little girl who had walked across a marble floor and changed his life with four simple words.

"Emma," Lorenzo said gently.

Emma, clutching her stuffed rabbit, peeked up at him.

"You saved my daughter," Lorenzo said, a soft, rare smile appearing on his face. "And you saved me."

Sophia burst into tears, covering her face. "Mr. DeLuca... I was so scared. Victor said if I told you, he would kill Emma. I had to hide your baby in my cottage... I tried to take care of her as best as I could..."

"You kept her alive, Sophia," Lorenzo said firmly. "You protected her in a house of wolves. You will never have to work as a maid another day in your life."

He motioned to Marco, who walked forward and laid a thick leather folder on the table.

"In this folder," Lorenzo explained, "are the deeds to a private estate in Tuscany, Italy, along with full citizenship papers for you and Emma, and a trust fund that will ensure she never wants for anything for the rest of her life. You leave tonight on my private jet."

Sophia gasped, staring at the documents in disbelief. "Mr. DeLuca... I... I can't accept this..."

"You gave me back my soul," Lorenzo said, looking down at his daughter sleeping soundly in his arms. "There is no amount of money on earth that can pay for that."
