Chapter 10 - A Garden in Light

One year later.
The summer sun shone brilliantly over the rolling green lawns of the DeLuca estate in Long Island. The dark, brooding atmosphere that had once defined the mansion was completely gone, replaced by the laughter of children, the scent of blooming jasmine, and the bright blue reflection of the Atlantic Ocean.
A massive garden party was underway.
Tables draped in white linen were scattered across the lawn, laden with traditional Italian food, wine, and flowers. But this wasn't a gathering of shadowy underworld figures or corrupt politicians. It was a true celebration of life.
Marco sat near the pavilion, wearing a sharp suit without his usual shoulder holster, trying unsuccessfully to teach a chubby nearly two-year-old baby Isabella how to hold a wooden toy sword. The little girl giggled hysterically, slapping Marco’s face with her sticky, ice-cream-covered hands.
Standing by the grand marble fountain was Isabella Conti—now Isabella DeLuca. She wore a sunlit yellow sundress, her hair flowing freely, her skin glowing with health and happiness. She was laughing with Sophia Rossi, who had flown in from Tuscany with four-year-old Emma for the summer reunion.
Emma, dressed in a bright pink summer outfit, ran across the grass toward the center of the lawn, holding a giant colorful kite.
Lorenzo DeLuca stood on the terrace, holding a glass of sparkling lemonade. He watched his family—his true family—with a gentle, serene smile.
He had officially stepped down as the active head of the DeLuca syndicate, transitioning the organization's vast wealth into legitimate international logistics, real estate, and philanthropic foundations managed by a council of trusted, vetted allies. The Il Silenzioso of the dark streets was gone, replaced simply by a father and a husband.
Isabella walked up the terrace steps, slipping her arm around Lorenzo’s waist and resting her head against his shoulder.
"What are you thinking about, my love?" she asked softly.
Lorenzo put his arm around her, kissing the top of her head. "I was thinking about how close I came to losing myself in the dark."
Isabella looked up at him, her chestnut eyes warm and bright. "And what brought you back?"
Lorenzo looked out across the lawn toward little Emma, who was running happily with her kite, and then toward their little daughter, baby Isabella, who was now crawling excitedly toward her mother.

"A little girl's whisper," Lorenzo said, his voice filled with endless love and gratitude. "And a miracle that gave me back my life."
He knelt down as baby Isabella reached the terrace, lifting her up into his left arm while holding his wife with his right. Together, under the clear blue New York sky, the family stood wrapped in light, leaving the darkness of the past behind forever.
