Chapter 9 - New Beginnings

Two months later, it was time for Simon to leave for university. The packing was a joyous affair, filled with laughter rather than the stress of financial strain.

Jonathan had become a close friend to the family, often stopping by to help Simon pack or offer advice on navigating the city. There was a gentle, respectful spark growing between Jonathan and Joanna, built on mutual respect and shared healing, though they were taking things slow.

Dorothy and George had reached out, offering a genuine, tearful apology to Joanna. They had realized too late how their favoritism toward Denise had blinded them. Joanna, true to her nature as a social worker and a loving soul, accepted their apology but maintained healthy boundaries. Denise had moved away to a small apartment in another state, broke and completely ignored by the high society she had craved.

As Simon loaded the last box into a brand-new, reliable car they had bought together, he stopped and looked at the old house.

"I'm going to miss this place," he said.

"This place was just a building, Simon," Joanna smiled. "Wherever we are, that's where home is."
