Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Graduation

Four years passed in a beautiful blur of college semesters, holiday visits, and peaceful Sunday dinners. Joanna’s catering business had grown into a successful local restaurant, and she was now a licensed family therapist, helping young mothers navigate the difficulties of parenthood.

It was another graduation day. But this time, it was at a massive university stadium. Simon was graduating at the top of his class with a degree in Aerospace Engineering.

The stadium was packed with thousands of people, but Joanna had a front-row seat, bought months in advance. Next to her sat Jonathan, holding her hand tightly, and her parents, Dorothy and George, who looked on with quiet pride.

When Simon’s name was called, the stadium erupted. He walked across the stage, shook the dean's hand, and accepted his diploma. As he turned to face the crowd, he didn't look at the cameras or the dignitaries. His eyes scanned the front row until they found Joanna.

He tapped his heart twice—their old signal from when he was a little boy singing in the school choir.

After the ceremony, the family gathered on the campus lawn. Simon ran straight to Joanna, throwing his arms around her and lifting her off her feet, his cap falling to the grass.

"We officially made it, Mom," Simon said, a tear of pure joy slipping down his cheek.

"I always knew you would, my beautiful boy," Joanna replied, holding him tight.

There were no flashy emerald suits, no fake social media posts, and no insulting cakes. There was only a mother, a son, and a love that had been tested by fire and emerged pure gold. Joanna looked around at her family, her friends, and the man who loved her, and she knew that every single double shift, every peso stretched, and every sleepless night had been worth this exact moment of pure, unadulterated peace.
