Chapter 7 - The Unraveling of Kenneth

Within two weeks of the eviction, Kenneth’s life had completely shattered into dust.
Bradsdale Global was forced into involuntary Chapter 7 liquidation. His bank accounts were frozen to satisfy the outstanding debts owed to the Fairview Trust. His reputation in Maryland society was entirely destroyed after the story of how he abandoned his pregnant, high-ranking military officer wife spread through the business community like wildfire.
Vanessa Sterling broke off her engagement immediately, taking her diamond ring and blocking his number after her father threatened to disown her for getting involved with a ruined, disgraced man.
Kenneth was forced to move into a tiny, rundown one-bedroom apartment on the outskirts of Baltimore, working as a lower-level logistics dispatcher for a wage that barely covered his basic living expenses.
Meanwhile, I officially took command of the 754th Strategic Intelligence Wing at Fort Meade.
On a bright Tuesday morning, the base held a full ceremonial parade in my honor. Hundreds of soldiers stood at crisp attention on the parade grounds, flags snapping in the wind, as General Pendelton officially handed me the wing’s battle colors.
Standing in the front row of the VIP bleachers were Mrs. Burke, holding little Victoria, and my attorney, Harrison Vance.
As I stood before my troops, wearing my dress uniforms with a row of campaign ribbons across my chest, I felt a deep, profound sense of fulfillment. I had built my career through discipline, dedication, and service. Kenneth had believed my silence was weakness, unaware that true strength never needs to make loud demands.
After the ceremony, Harrison walked over to me near the parade gazebo, holding a folder of court documents.
"The final divorce decree has been issued by the family court judge, Colonel," Harrison reported with a satisfaction he couldn't hide. "Due to Kenneth’s abandonment, financial misconduct, and lack of stable housing, you have been awarded sole legal and physical custody of Victoria. Kenneth has been granted restricted, supervised visitation rights—contingent upon him paying child support based on his new low-income wage."

"Thank you, Harrison," I said, taking the papers. "And the trust?"
"The twenty million dollars is completely secured in a private generational account for Victoria," Harrison smiled. "Kenneth will never be able to touch a single cent of it."
