Chapter 9 - The Restoration of Jiang City

Six months after the trial, the corporate landscape of Jiang City had been completely transformed. The old, corrupt networks that had allowed men like Ethan to thrive had been systematically dismantled, replaced by the transparent, high-efficiency algorithms of the new Shengheng Logistics Group.

The old Ethan villa had been demolished, and in its place stood the Reed Memorial Children’s Rehabilitation Center—a sprawling, state-of-the-art facility where children from low-income families could receive world-class physical therapy and neurological care completely free of charge.

Sophia stood on the wide stone terrace of the center’s main pavilion, watching a group of young children playing on the green lawns below. She was wearing a simple, elegant cream-colored wrap dress, her hair catching the warm afternoon breeze.

Leo stepped out onto the terrace behind her, carrying two glasses of fresh iced tea. He had traded his tactical suits for a sharp, tailored corporate blazer, his expression relaxed and full of a quiet, deep-seated peace.

"The initial enrollment is full, Miss," Leo said, handing her a glass. "We have sixty children starting their therapy cycles on Monday. The medical board says the success rate for the new electronic stimulation units is exceeding ninety percent."

"Thank you, Leo," Sophia said, turning to look at him with a smile that reached her eyes. "For everything. For keeping the servers alive when I was too weak to see the screen. For being the only one who didn't look at me with pity."

May you like

"You never needed pity, Sophia," Leo said, dropping the professional title for the first time in three years, his voice low and full of an unconditional warmth. "You just needed the grid to clear so the world could see who you actually are."

She reached out, her fingers interlocking with his, her grip strong and steady. They stood together on the terrace, looking out over the city they had saved from the shadows, their shadows long and unified against the golden light of the setting sun.
