Chapter 10 - The Architecture of Light

The annual Jiang City Business Excellence Gala was no longer a place of whispered scandals and corporate predation. Tonight, the grand ballroom of the Riverside Palace was filled with a new energy—an energy of innovation, philanthropy, and genuine civic pride.
Sophia Reed stood at the podium at the front of the ballroom, the center of every camera lens and every eye in the room. She looked magnificent, dressed in a flawless white silk evening gown that seemed to catch the light from the massive crystal chandeliers above.
"Two years ago," Sophia said into the microphone, her voice steady, clear, and commanding the absolute silence of the room, "I was told that my value to this city was decorative. I was told that because my legs were broken, my voice had no right to be heard. But a system is only as weak as the lies you allow to run through its code."
The crowd erupted into applause, the sound echoing through the vaulted ceilings.
"Tonight," she continued, looking out at the front row where Leo sat, his eyes fixed on her with an expression of profound pride and love, "the Shengheng Group is announcing the complete automation of the northern trade network, ensuring that every container ship, every independent dockworker, and every local clinic has access to a secure, unhackable ledger. We are building an architecture of light, where no one can be hidden in the dark, and no one can be left behind on the floor."
As she stepped down from the podium, the applause swelled into a standing ovation that lasted for three full minutes. She didn't look at the crowd; she walked directly toward the front row, where Leo was waiting for her, his arm reached out to catch her hand.

They walked together out through the grand glass doors of the pavilion into the warm, starlit night of Jiang City. The harbor below was alive with the steady, rhythmic lights of the container fleet, the silver dragon of the Shengheng Network glowing brightly from the master beacon on the central tower.
Sophia leaned her head against Leo’s shoulder as they walked toward the water, her steps perfectly synchronized with his, her body entirely healed, her empire completely secure, and her life finally, beautifully her own. The cold dinner was over, and the dawn had finally arrived.
