Chapter 7 - The Gathering Storm

The standoff in the foyer ended swiftly.
Outnumbered and outgunned, Isabella Vance was escorted off the property by Leo’s security squad, her white mink coat disappearing into a black limousine, leaving behind a promise of absolute retaliation.
That night, Villa Costa went on high security alert.
Heavy blast shutters were drawn across the windows. Automated turret defense systems were armed along the perimeter cliffs, and twenty additional guards were stationed around the grounds.
Inside the private war room in the basement, Gabriel sat surrounded by electronic maps, tactical screens, and legal documents.
Nora stepped inside, carrying two mugs of dark coffee.
She set a mug beside his elbow, looking at the glowing red dots representing Vance cargo ships hovering three miles off the Boston coast.
"Is it true?" Nora asked softly, sitting on the edge of his desk. "Is he going to attack the harbor?"
Gabriel took a slow sip of coffee, rubbing his tired eyes. "Julian Vance is desperate. His New York operations are failing due to a federal tax audit. He needs my Boston ports to move his illegal contraband, or his syndicate collapses by the new year."
He looked up at Nora, his expression pained.
"I brought you into a war, Nora," Gabriel murmured, reaching out to hold her hand. "I claimed you to protect myself, and now Vance is targeting you."
Nora squeezed his hand tightly.
"You didn't drag me into a war, Gabriel," Nora said firmly, her eyes shining with quiet strength. "You saved me from a life of slow, miserable death. For the first time in my life, I have a home. I have a purpose. I am not going to let some New York crime boss take that away from us."
Gabriel looked at her, a rare, breathtaking warmth breaking across his hard features.
"You really are something extraordinary, Nora Costa," Gabriel whispered, pulling her hand to his lips and pressing a slow, deep kiss onto her knuckles.
"What's the plan?" Nora asked, leaning over the tactical map.
Gabriel pointed to a highlighted blue node on the screen—a private digital ledger server located in a high-security warehouse in downtown Boston.
"Julian Vance built his entire fortune on extortion," Gabriel explained. "The master encryption key to his off-shore accounts is stored on a physical server in Boston. If we can extract that drive, we can freeze his entire financial empire before his ships fire a single shot."
Nora looked closely at the warehouse floor plan on the monitor. Her eyes caught on a small, yellow label near the service elevator.
"The Apex Security Logistics Warehouse?" Nora asked, her eyebrows rising.
"Yes," Gabriel said. "How do you know it?"
Nora let out a small, amazed smile. "I worked as a night-shift cleaning supervisor in that exact building for eight months, Gabriel. I know every air duct, every service door, and every guard shift pattern in that structure."
Gabriel froze, looking from the screen to his wife.

A slow, lethal smirk spread across his face.
"My little mouse," Gabriel whispered proudly. "You just gave me the key to Vance’s grave."
