Chapter 8 - The Aftermath of the Fall

The judge dismissed the custody petition immediately, ordering an instant investigation into Teresa Aranda for unlawful confinement, medical fraud, and conspiracy. As the bailiffs stepped forward to arrest Teresa right there in the courtroom, she let out a desperate, broken scream, pointing a finger at me.

"You ruined us! You trash! You destroyed my family!"

I didn't answer. I simply stood next to Victoria, watching as the woman who had looked at my shoes before my face was led away in handcuffs.

Rodrigo approached the witness stand, falling into his father's arms, weeping openly. "Dad... I'm so sorry. I didn't know. I swear I didn't know."

Arthur hugged his son, but his face was grim. "You let your mother blind you, Rodrigo. You failed your wife, and you failed your daughter. You have a lot of growing up to do."

After a long moment, Rodrigo walked over to me. He looked broken, a shell of the billionaire prince he used to be. "Daniela... please. Now that the truth is out... can we start over? For Lucía? My dad is back, we can fix the company, we can be a family."

I looked at him, feeling a sense of closure, but no desire to return to his world.

"Rodrigo, your father is a good man. I am glad he is free," I said gently but firmly. "But you didn't doubt me because of your mother. You doubted me because you didn't respect me. You thought that because I came from a small apartment, I was beneath you. You let your mother treat me like a disposable object until I proved I could fight back. That’s not love. That’s fear."

"I do love you!" he insisted.

"Goodbye, Rodrigo," I said. I turned around and walked out of the courtroom, leaving the Aranda drama behind me for good.
