Chapter 2 - The Second Envelope

"But of course, we aren't just here to talk about eye color, are we?" I continued, reaching back into my purse. The room held its collective breath as I pulled out the second, thicker envelope. It was bound in a sleek black folder.

Teresa’s eyes narrowed. "Daniela, that is enough. You've made your point. This party is for Lucía—"

"Oh, now it's for Lucía?" I laughed, a cold, humorless sound. "Ten minutes ago, you were using her birthday to brand her a bastard in front of the elite high society. No, Teresa. We are going to finish this."

I tossed the second folder right into the center of the table, knocking over a vase of white roses. Water spilled across the ivory cloth, soaking the edge of Teresa’s expensive silk dress. She gasped, jumping back.

"Rodrigo, open that one," I commanded.

Rodrigo looked terrified. He reached out and opened the folder. The first page was a printed email chain. At the top, the subject line read: “Birthday Structure & Asset Protection.”

As Rodrigo read, the color drained completely from his face. "Mom... what is this?"

"Rodrigo, don't look at whatever nonsense she fabricated—" Teresa began, her voice rising in panic.

"It’s an email from your personal account to Paulina Mier, dated two months ago," I said to the room, ensuring every single guest heard me. "Detailing a step-by-step plan to publicly humiliate me tonight. You planned to use the blue-eye rumor to justify a public scandal, which would force Rodrigo into a quick divorce. But that's not all. Look at page three, Rodrigo."

Rodrigo flipped the page. His jaw dropped. "You... you transferred funds from the family trust? To Paulina's family holding company?"

"Your mother used your digital signature and your authorization codes, Rodrigo," I explained smoothly. "She transferred three million dollars out of the Aranda logistics firm into a shell corporation managed by Paulina. The agreement was simple: Paulina helps orchestrate my downfall, replaces me as your wife, and the Mier family merges their shipping lines with yours, giving Teresa absolute control over the board of directors. You weren't just trying to get rid of a daughter-in-law, Teresa. You were staging a corporate coup against your own son."

The room erupted into chaotic whispers. The scandal had shifted from a petty marriage dispute to high-stakes corporate fraud.

Paulina stood up abruptly, her face pale. "This is absurd! I am leaving!"

"You can leave, Paulina," I said, turning to her with a sharp smile. "But my lawyer is waiting outside the club gates with the police. The financial records in that folder constitute corporate embezzlement and identity theft. You and Teresa signed those transfer sheets. If you walk out those doors, you’re walking right into a squad car."
