Chapter 3 - The Fractured Dynasty

The elegant private club turned into a battleground. Guests began scrambling for the exits, wanting no part of the legal storm that was about to break.

"Everyone, please stay seated!" Teresa shouted, completely losing her aristocratic composure. Her hair, usually perfectly pinned, was beginning to come loose. "Daniela is lying! She’s a manipulative, gold-digging—"

"Quiet, Mom!" Rodrigo roared. It was the first time he had ever raised his voice at his mother. He stared at the documents, his chest heaving. "The digital signatures... these are my private codes. The only other person who had access to them was you. You told me you needed them for a routine audit."

He looked at Paulina, his eyes filled with betrayal. "And you... you were in on this? I thought you were my friend."

Paulina panicked, her elite facade cracking. "Rodrigo, your mother told me it was what was best for the company! She said Daniela was dragging the Aranda name down! I just wanted to help you!"

"By stealing three million dollars from my company?!" Rodrigo slammed his hand on the table, shattering a wine glass.

I watched the destruction calmly. I adjusted Lucía on my hip. She had stopped crying, fascinated by the bright lights, completely oblivious to the fact that her mother had just dismantled an empire to protect her.

"Daniela," Rodrigo turned to me, his eyes begging for forgiveness, filled with tears. "I am so sorry. I should have trusted you. I should have stood up to her. Please, let's go home. We can fix this."

"Home?" I looked at him, feeling a profound sense of pity, but no love. The love had died during those eleven minutes I spent crying on the kitchen floor three months ago. "There is no 'we', Rodrigo. You chose your side when you stayed silent. You chose your side when you looked at our daughter with doubt in your eyes."

I pulled a third document from the side pocket of my purse—a much thinner one. I slipped it onto the table.

"Divorce papers," I said. "Full custody of Lucía. You can keep your name, your country clubs, and your broken family. I am taking my daughter, and I am taking my dignity."

Before anyone could stop me, I turned around and walked down the center aisle of the banquet hall. My heels clicked firmly against the marble floor. Behind me, I could hear Teresa screaming, Rodrigo pleading, and the elite guests whispering in absolute shock.

I pushed open the heavy oak doors of the private club and stepped out into the cool night air. For the first time in a year, I felt like I could breathe.
