Chapter 9 - The Trial and The Truth

Six months later.

Spring had returned to Seattle. The waterfront was brilliant with blooming cherry blossoms, warm sunshine, and the gentle, blue calm of Elliott Bay.

Inside the Federal District Court of Western Washington, the grand marble courtroom was packed to absolute capacity.

Sitting behind the defense table in orange prison jumpsuits and heavy wrist restraints were Marcus Thorne, Victor Kray, and former Judge Brenda Miller.

Sitting in the front row of the gallery was Callum Pierce, impeccably dressed in a charcoal suit, flanked by his elite legal team. Beside him sat Sarah Vance, looking radiant, healthy, and serene in a elegant cream suit, her dark hair shining in the sunlight streaming through the tall court windows.

The honorable Chief District Judge Richard Sterling slammed his heavy wooden gavel onto the bench.

BANG!

"In the matter of the United States versus Victor Kray, Marcus Thorne, and Brenda Miller," Judge Sterling announced, his stern voice echoing through the silent courtroom. "Having reviewed the overwhelming forensic evidence provided by whistleblower Sarah Vance and the security apparatus of Pierce Global, this court finds all defendants guilty on all counts of racketeering, public corruption, kidnapping, and conspiracy."

A quiet gasp ran through the courtroom gallery.

Judge Sterling looked over his glasses at Marcus Thorne and Victor Kray.

"Marcus Thorne," the Judge declared coldly. "You abused your position of corporate trust to endanger innocent lives and corrupt the judicial system of this state. You are sentenced to forty-five years in federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole."

Marcus Thorne slumped forward, his face gray, his arrogant eyes completely lifeless as federal marshals grabbed his arms and led him away in chains.

"Victor Kray," the Judge continued. "You will spend the remainder of your natural life at ADX Florence."

As the marshals dragged the groaning mob boss out of the courtroom, Judge Sterling turned his gaze toward the gallery, looking directly at Sarah Vance and Callum Pierce.

"Mrs. Vance," the Judge said warmly, his stern expression softening into deep respect. "Your courage in protecting the integrity of our financial system—and above all, your unyielding devotion as a mother—is an inspiration to this court. You are fully exonerated of all administrative flags, and the federal government extends its deepest apologies for the ordeal you endured."

Sarah let out a soft breath, smiling through happy tears as she squeezed Callum’s hand beneath the wooden gallery railing.

"And to you, Mr. Pierce," Judge Sterling added, leaning forward on his bench. "It is rare in this city to see a man of immense wealth use his resources not to escape the law, but to enforce justice and protect the defenseless. This city owes you a debt of gratitude."

"Thank you, Your Honor," Callum said simply, bowing his head with quiet dignity.

As the courtroom cleared, Callum and Sarah walked out onto the grand stone steps of the federal courthouse, greeted by bright sunshine and a warm spring breeze off the bay.

Reporters and news cameras surged forward, flashbulbs popping frantically, but Gabriel’s security team smoothly formed a respectful barrier, allowing Callum and Sarah to walk down the steps in peace.

"Where to now?" Sarah asked, turning her head to look up at Callum, her eyes shining in the spring light.

Callum smiled, pulling his car keys from his pocket. "To the waterfront. Two young ladies are waiting for us."
