Chapter 7 - The Confrontation at Lakeview

The next morning, the city of Chicago woke up to a financial earthquake. Before the sun had even fully cleared the lakefront, Roman Costello had launched a systematic, devastating short-attack on the financial holdings of Lakeview Memorial Hospital’s parent company, while simultaneously acquiring forty-nine percent of their outstanding debt bonds. By 9:00 a.m., he legally controlled the hospital's board of directors.
At 10:30 a.m., a fleet of black SUVs pulled up to the main entrance of Lakeview Memorial.
Roman stepped out, dressed in a flawless navy suit, looking every bit the ruthless billionaire tycoon. Beside him walked Pamela. She was no longer wearing the stained black apron. She wore a tailored emerald-green dress, her dark hair pinned back elegantly, her posture regal and commanding. She looked like a queen returning to claim her stolen throne.
They walked through the grand lobby, flanked by six bodyguards. The hospital staff panicked, recognizing Roman instantly. The administrative director, a pompous man named Dr. Gregory Harrison, came rushing out of the executive elevators, his face pale as he intercepted them.
"Mr. Costello! What is the meaning of this? We heard about the tragic passing of Dr. Vance last night, but this... this disruption to our facility—"
"Shut up, Gregory," Roman said smoothly, not even pausing his stride as he walked right past him toward the main records vault in the basement. "You are speaking to the new majority owner of this institution. And more importantly, you are speaking to the woman whose children you helped steal."
Dr. Harrison froze, his eyes darting to Pamela. He recognized her. He had been one of the administrators who signed off on the "cremation waivers" fourteen months ago. "P-Pamela Hayes? This... this is a legal outrage! You have no authority—"
Marco stepped in front of Harrison, his massive chest pinning the director against the wall. "Move, or I will remove you."
They entered the secure digital archive room. Roman’s private cyber forensics team was already there, having cleared out the hospital’s IT staff hours ago. A young woman named Sarah looked up from a terminal, her fingers flying across the keys.
"I found it, Mr. Costello," Sarah announced, splitting the massive wall screen into two feeds. "Dr. Vance had a hidden, encrypted partition on the hospital’s main server. It contains the unedited, raw video footage from Delivery Room 4 on May 14th."
Pamela gripped Roman’s arm as the video began to play.
The screen showed a younger, exhausted Pamela crying out in labor. She watched herself give birth to three beautiful, crying babies. The audio was clear—the doctors were shouting that the infants were perfectly healthy, their Apgar scores exceptionally high. Then, the video showed Dr. Vance entering the room with a nurse. He injected something into Pamela’s IV line, causing her to lose consciousness instantly.
The moment she closed her eyes on screen, another woman entered the delivery room through the back door.
It was Victoria Costello.
Pamela watched in breathless horror as Victoria handed Vance a black briefcase, while two nurses carefully placed the three crying infants into a specialized transport incubator.

"There it is," Roman hissed, his jaw locking with a terrifying intensity. "The absolute proof. Print it, secure it, and send a copy directly to the federal prosecutor. The Falcones paid off the local police precinct, but they can't touch the feds."
Pamela stared at the screen, her heart aching for the younger version of herself who had been left alone in that dark room, but as she felt Roman’s warm, powerful hand wrap around hers, she knew the darkness was finally over. The hunt was turning.
