Chapter 8 - The Falling Dominos

By Monday morning, the news of the "Sterling Scandal" had ripped through the city’s upper class like a wildfire.

The story of how Beatrice Miller had abused, sheared, and evicted the secret heiress to the Sterling fortune was the only topic of conversation at every coffee shop, board room, and country club.

The fallout was immediate and catastrophic.

By 10:00 AM, Vance & Miller Marketing collapsed completely. Upon learning that Liam’s mother had personally insulted and assaulted the daughter of their biggest potential client, Liam’s business partner, Marcus Vance, dissolved the partnership on the spot, pulling all company capital and filing a lawsuit against Liam for corporate negligence.

At 1:00 PM, a team of process servers arrived at Beatrice’s grand estate in Oakridge, serving her with formal foreclosure papers from First National Commerce Bank, alongside an emergency civil lawsuit filed by my legal team for assault, battery, unlawful imprisonment, and defamation.

Beatrice tried desperately to call her "high-society" friends for help, loan guarantees, or legal referrals.

Every single call went straight to voicemail. The women who had sat at her tea parties and laughed at her cruel jokes about "poor farm girls" blocked her number instantly, terrified of being associated with a woman who had earned the wrath of the Sterling family.

By Wednesday evening, Beatrice stood in her grand living room, surrounded by cardboard moving boxes.

The bank had issued an expedited eviction order due to lease violations on the land trust. Her expensive furniture was tagged for public auction to satisfy her mounting legal debts, and her pearl necklaces were seized by court officers.

Liam sat on the stairs of the grand foyer, holding an empty bottle of whiskey, staring blankly at the front door where a heavy brass lock had just been replaced by bank technicians.

"Mom..." Liam whispered, his voice hollow and dead. "We have nowhere to go."

Beatrice collapsed onto one of the moving boxes, her expensive silk dress wrinkled and stained, her manicured nails broken. For the first time in her life, the arrogant, ruthless woman had nothing left to say.
