Chapter 7 - The Final Siege

Two weeks passed, and life inside the Rossi estate began to settle into a new, beautiful routine.

I was no longer wearing a maid’s uniform. Lorenzo had moved me out of the servants' quarters and into a luxurious guest suite adjoining his master bedroom. I was officially appointed as Leo’s private guardian and nurse, though everyone in the house knew my role had become far greater.

I was sitting in the courtyard garden, watching Leo kick his tiny legs in a velvet pram, when the heavy front gates rattled open.

A convoy of black SUVs pulled into the courtyard, surrounded by fifty armed syndicate guards.

Lorenzo stepped out onto the marble veranda, flanked by Marco and his top commanders. From the lead vehicle stepped an elderly man with silver hair, carrying a gold-tipped cane—Don Carmine, the supreme head of the Texas Syndicate Commission.

Don Carmine walked up the steps, his sharp eyes scanning the estate before settling on Lorenzo.

“Lorenzo,” Carmine said, his voice deep and raspy. “The Commission called an emergency meeting. Dante has made formal allegations against you. He claims you murdered his men, seized his assets, and violated syndicate law without a trial.”

Lorenzo didn't flinch. He stood tall, his hands folded behind his back.

“Dante attempted to murder my son, Don Carmine,” Lorenzo said smoothly. “He bribed my doctor to slow-poison an infant so he could claim my seat.”

Carmine’s eyes narrowed. “Heavy allegations, Lorenzo. Do you have proof that satisfies the Commission? Or are we facing an internal war?”

I stood up from the garden bench, taking a deep breath. I picked up Leo, holding him securely against my shoulder, and walked up the stone steps toward the two powerful men.

“I have the proof, Don Carmine,” I said, my voice ringing clear across the courtyard.

Carmine turned, looking at me with surprise. “And who are you, girl?”

“I am the woman who saved this child’s life,” I said proudly.

I gestured to Marco, who brought forward an electronic tablet displaying forensic lab reports from the State Medical Examiner, along with recorded confession tapes from Dr. Vance detailing every wire transfer sent from Dante’s offshore accounts.

Carmine took the tablet, reviewing the documents with growing rage.

“Dante didn't just break syndicate law,” I added, looking Carmine straight in the eye. “He broke the unwritten rule of humanity—he tried to starve an innocent baby to death. If the Commission protects a baby-killer, then the Commission has no honor.”

Carmine looked up from the tablet, staring at me for a long moment. Then, a slow, appreciative smile spread across the old man’s face.

“She has spirit, Lorenzo,” Carmine chuckled softly, handing the tablet back to Marco. He turned to his guards. “Find Dante. Bring him to the river warehouse. The Commission has rendered its verdict.”

Carmine turned back to Lorenzo, placing a heavy hand on his shoulder. “Your seat is secure, Lorenzo. And your house... is in very good hands.”
