Chapter 6 - Blood on the Docks

The Chicago River was a black, icy ribbon reflecting the distant neon lights of the Loop as three unmarked black SUVs rolled silently past the rusted security gates of the Marchetti port facility.
Inside the primary shipping warehouse, crates of contraband electronics and smuggled firearms were stacked twenty feet high, casting long, menacing shadows across the concrete floor. Everett Marchetti’s men—dozen of armed enforcers wearing heavy tactical vests—were gathered around a central staging table, laughing and smoking cigars as they coordinated their upcoming territorial push.
They never heard the perimeter guards go down.
The heavy steel loading bay doors of the warehouse suddenly exploded inward with a deafening crash, ripped off their reinforced tracks by a heavy-duty tow cable attached to the front bumper of Weston’s lead vehicle.
Before the dust could settle, flashbang grenades whistled through the air, detonating with blinding white light and concussive shockwaves that rattled the corrugated metal walls.
"Kade!" someone screamed in terror.
Chaos erupted instantly. Automatic gunfire shattered the silence of the night, chewing through wooden shipping crates and sending splintered wood flying in all directions.
Weston led the charge, moving through the smoke and crossfire like a wraith of vengeance. Dressed in his tactical turtleneck and dark wool trousers, he fired with lethal, terrifying efficiency—two rounds to the chest, one to the head, repeating the cycle with mechanical coldness. Every movement was calculated, every shot an execution.
Silas and the strike team swept through the flanks, cutting off all avenues of escape. Marchetti’s enforcers dropped like wheat before a scythe, their weapons clattering uselessly against the concrete.
From behind a stack of steel shipping containers, Everett Marchetti stumbled backward, his face smeared with soot and blood, clutching a submachine gun with shaking hands.
"Kade—wait!" Marchetti choked out, coughing as the acrid smoke filled his lungs. "We can talk business! A split territory! Fifty-fifty on the port revenues!"
Weston stepped out of the haze, his boots leaving dark footprints in the puddles of spilled oil and blood. He raised his suppressed pistol, the black barrel pointing directly between Everett’s terrified eyes.
"You thought my charity was a vulnerability, Everett," Weston said softly, his voice cutting clearly through the dying echoes of gunfire. "You thought that because I care for the innocent caught in the crossfire of our war, my blade had grown dull."
"Please..." Marchetti whimpered, dropping his weapon as it clattered onto the floor.

"Let this be a lesson to every rat in Chicago," Weston continued, cocking the hammer of his weapon. "The Kade Syndicate is built on iron. And anyone who mistakes our mercy for weakness is already dead."
The muffled crack of the pistol echoed off the high ceiling of the warehouse, silencing Everett Marchetti forever.
