Chapter 10 - The Garden of Light

Six months later.

Summer had arrived in Lake Forest. The twelve-acre grounds of the Kade estate were alive with green grass, blooming white roses, and the sweet scent of fresh lavender drifting on the warm afternoon breeze.

In the south garden—the very garden that had sat locked and neglected for three years—a beautiful new marble fountain bubbled softly in the sunshine.

Engraved around the base of the fountain were the names: Odalys & Nadia Kade — Forever Loved, Never Forgotten.

Potted yellow roses—Nadia’s favorite flowers—were planted in a bright, fragrant circle all around the marble basin.

Weston stood beside the fountain wearing a light grey linen shirt and dark trousers. His hair was slightly longer, his face relaxed, the cold, murderous edge that had defined his life for three years entirely gone, replaced by a quiet, steady strength.

Across the lawn, Lily—now five years old, healthy, chubby-cheeked, and glowing with happiness—was chasing a butterfly through the grass, wearing a bright yellow sundress.

Clara walked out from the terrace carrying a tray with lemonade and fresh blueberry muffins. She wore a simple white sundress, her hair falling softly over her shoulders, her smile bright against the summer sun.

She set the tray on the iron garden table and walked up beside Weston, wrapping her arm gently around his waist.

Weston slid his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close against his side, resting his chin lightly against her soft hair.

"She looks so much like her picture today," Clara murmured softly, looking out at Lily laughing as she ran through the yellow roses.

"She is happy, Clara," Weston said softly, looking at the clear blue sky above them. "For the first time in three years... everyone in this house is finally happy."

Lily came running over, her tiny bare feet flying across the grass, holding a small bouquet of wild yellow dandelions she had picked from the edge of the lawn.

She ran up to the marble fountain, carefully setting the dandelions into the clear water near Odalys and Nadia's names.

"There," Lily smiled brightly, turning to look up at Weston and Clara. "Now the angels have flowers for their tea party."

Weston felt a warm, deep swelling in his chest—a feeling he had thought dead and buried forever beneath the gray earth three years ago. He knelt down, pulling Lily into his left arm, and pulled Clara down into his right arm.

They stood together in the sunlit garden, surrounded by the sweet scent of roses and the peaceful sound of bubbling water.

The Quiet King had finally found his peace. The maid's daughter had found her sanctuary. And in the heart of a home that had once been destroyed by darkness, love had built a fortress that would stand forever.
