Chapter 3 - The Blood Alliance Shattered

The grand courtyard of the Marquetti estate was illuminated by the floodlights of eight black SUVs arranged in a semicircle.
Donatella Falconee—the head of the Falconee syndicate and father of the bride—stood near the central fountain, flanked by six armed guards. His daughter, Vivien, still in her blood-stained white wedding dress, sat weeping on the edge of the marble basin.
Adrienne walked out onto the balcony overlooking the courtyard, with Clara standing half a step behind his shoulder.
"Adrienne!" Donatella yelled, his deep voice carrying across the cobblestones. "What is the meaning of this insult?! You pull your guns at my daughter's wedding? You accuse my brother of treason based on the word of a common servant?!"
Adrienne rested his hands on the wrought-iron railing.
"Your brother left a high-powered weapon in my tool shed, Donatella," Adrienne called down coldly. "And five minutes ago, my tech team decrypted Aldo’s personal cell phone, which was dropped near the sea wall during his escape."
Donatella’s jaw tightened slightly, but he kept his posture rigid. "Aldo is an accountant! He knows nothing of guns!"
"He knows plenty about money," Adrienne countered. "Specifically, the four million dollars wired to an offshore account in Zurich three days ago. The wire was authorized by a keyholder inside the Falconee inner council. The payment came from the Moretti family in Chicago."
A collective gasp echoed among the guards standing in the courtyard.
The Moretti family was the bitterest enemy of both the Marquetti and Falconee dynasties—a ruthless syndicate that had been trying to seize control of the eastern sea docks for over a decade.
"You lie!" Donatella shouted, though a flicker of genuine uncertainty passed over his weathered face.
"Check your brother's private office in downtown Naples," Adrienne suggested, his tone icy and precise. "You'll find the draft contracts dividing our shipping territories between the Morettis and Aldo Falconee. He didn't just try to kill me tonight, Donatella. He was planning to execute you next week, during the honeymoon."
Vivien Falconee stopped weeping. She stood up slowly, her tear-streaked face turning pale as she looked at her father. "Father... Uncle Aldo took my passport yesterday. He said he needed it for the travel visas... but he never gave it back."
Donatella turned to look at his daughter, the awful, crushing weight of the truth finally sinking in.
The alliance that was supposed to bring peace to the families had been built on a foundation of betrayal from its very inception.
"Where is he?" Donatella whispered, his voice suddenly sounding old and broken. "Where did Aldo go?"
"He’s heading for the docks at Castellammare," Clara spoke up, her voice ringing clear and steady across the courtyard.
Every eye turned to look at the young maid standing beside the mafia boss.
"How could you possibly know that?" Signora Sofia hissed from behind the balcony door.
Clara looked directly down at Donatella. "Because eleven months ago, when I dragged your wounded future son-in-law out of that alley, I saw the black sedan drive away toward the old fish processing plant near Pier 4. Aldo’s ring wasn't the only thing I recognized tonight. The boat that took him off the rocks had the name La Stella painted on the transom. That boat has been docked at Pier 4 for three years."

Adrienne looked down at Clara, a dark, proud smile touching his lips.
"You heard her," Adrienne commanded his capos. "Lock down Pier 4. We’re going to catch an assassin."
