Chapter 10 - The Vow on the Shore

One year later.

The small stone chapel standing on the cliffs above Sorrento was filled with light, fresh white lilies, and the soft melody of an acoustic guitar.

There were no armored SUVs parked outside. There were no armed guards standing at the doors, no fake alliances being negotiated behind velvet curtains, and no hidden weapons beneath the flowers.

It was a small, quiet wedding.

Donatella Falconee sat in the second row, dressed in a simple suit, having formally retired from syndicate life to live peacefully on his estate. Vivien Falconee sat beside him, smiling warmly as she watched the altar.

At the front of the chapel stood Adrienne, dressed in a sharp navy suit, his eyes locked onto the rear doors with an intensity that made his heart pound faster than it ever had in battle.

The heavy oak doors opened.

Clara walked down the aisle on the arm of her mother, Maria. She wore an elegant, simple silk dress that caught the morning sunlight, her dark hair falling in soft waves around her shoulders, holding a bouquet of white roses and olive branches.

She looked breathtaking.

When Maria handed Clara’s hand to Adrienne at the altar, the older woman leaned in and whispered, "Take care of my girl, Adrienne."

"With my life, Maria," Adrienne swore softly. "Always."

The priest spoke ancient, beautiful words of love, truth, and second chances. When the moment came, Adrienne pulled a simple, elegant band of polished white gold from his pocket—devoid of any family crests, folded wings, or dark symbols of power.

He slid the ring onto Clara’s finger, his hand warm and steady.

"Clara," Adrienne spoke his vows, his voice echoing clearly through the quiet chapel. "You found me in the dark when I had nothing left to offer, and you saved me from the world I built. I promise to spend the rest of my days honoring your courage, protecting your peace, and loving you with everything I am."

Clara smiled through happy tears, placing a matching gold band on his finger.

"Adrienne," she said softly. "I chose you not because of who you were, but because of the man you fought to become. I am yours, today and forever."

"I pronounce you husband and wife," the priest smiled. "You may kiss the bride."

Adrienne pulled Clara into his arms, kissing her deeply as the sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows, casting brilliant geometric patterns of red, blue, and gold across the stone floor.

Outside, the bells of the chapel rang out across the quiet coast of Sorrento, echoing over the calm, endless sea.

Hand in hand, Clara and Adrienne walked out into the warm afternoon light—stepping away from the shadows of the past, and walking together into a long, bright, and peaceful future.
