Chapter 3 - The Ghost of the Harbor

Over the next two weeks, the transformation of Lyra Vance continued, but it was not merely physical. While Dante’s personal tailors fitted her in sleek black gowns and sharp, modern suits, Dante’s chief intelligence officer, Leo, trained her on modern technology, weapons, and corporate surveillance.
To their surprise, Lyra needed very little training. Before the explosion, she had been a prodigy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, studying maritime logistics and computer engineering. The survival skills she had honed living in the dark underground of New York had given her instincts sharper than any trained assassin.
One evening, Leo rushed into Dante’s study, holding an encrypted data tablet.
"Boss, we have movement," Leo said. "Marcus Vance is hosting the annual Maritime Founders Ball at the Grand Plaza Hotel this Saturday. It’s the biggest social event of the season. Every major politician, shipping tycoon, and syndicate leader will be in that ballroom."
Dante looked up from his desk, a glass of bourbon in his hand. "Is he announcing the merger with the Brighton syndicate?"
"Yes," Leo confirmed. "He’s selling forty percent of Vance Global’s docklands to Viktor Reznikov. Once that contract is signed on live television, Marcus’s position will be unassailable."
Lyra walked out from the adjoining library room. She wore a fitted burgundy dress that covered the scar on her neck, though the silver falcon tattoo on her collarbone remained visible—a subtle, lethal promise. Her dark hair was styled into a sharp, asymmetrical bob that highlighted her fierce jawline.
"He won't sign that contract," Lyra said, her voice no longer a raspy whisper, but clear, smooth, and laced with cold authority.
Dante looked at her, a rare, faint smile touching his lips. "You have a plan?"

"Marcus built his current fortune on my father’s private encryption codes," Lyra said, walking toward the map of Manhattan laid out on the table. "He thinks the master ledger was destroyed on the yacht. But I memorized the primary access keys when I was sixteen. If I can get five minutes at his private terminal inside the Plaza’s VIP suite during the ball, I can broadcast eight years of his illegal transactions to every federal agency in North America."
Dante stood up, buttoning his jacket. "Then we’re crashing a party."
