Chapter 8 - The Matriarch’s Return

Two days later, the sun shone brightly over Cheyenne.

The corporate headquarters of Harrison Plains was a magnificent six-story building of dark granite and glass sitting in the heart of the city's financial district.

Inside the grand penthouse boardroom, twenty members of the board of directors, senior executives, and agricultural union leaders sat around a forty-foot mahogany table. The room was buzzing with tense, anxious chatter. News of Julian’s arrest and Dr. Mercer’s full confession had shattered the business community, leaving the multi-billion-dollar empire in absolute shock.

At the head of the table sat Grant.

Beside him sat Willa, dressed in an elegant navy wool suit that Grant had personally ordered from Cheyenne’s finest boutique, her dark red hair styled in a graceful twist.

"Where is the voting proxy?" the senior board member asked nervously. "Grant, without Eleanor’s physical presence or a certified power of attorney, we cannot legally freeze Apex Bio-Tech’s assets or restore the ranch reserves!"

Before Grant could answer, the double oak doors at the end of the boardroom swung open.

The room went completely silent.

Walking through the doors—not in a wheelchair, but standing tall, leaning lightly on a silver-topped walking cane—was Eleanor Harrison.

She wore an elegant burgundy suit. Her silver hair was neatly combed, her skin had returned to a healthy, warm color, and her blue eyes burned with the same fierce, terrifying intelligence that had built the empire forty years ago.

Behind her walked Dr. Marcus Thorne and two uniformed security guards.

Every single executive in the room gasped, several of them standing up in sheer disbelief.

"M-Mrs. Harrison!" the senior board member stammered, his mouth agape. "We... we were told you were in hospice care! We were told—"

"You were told what a traitor wanted you to hear," Eleanor declared, her voice ringing clear and strong across the room like a silver bell.

She walked straight to the head of the table. Grant instantly stood up, offering his mother his arm, helping her take her seat at the head of the empire.

Eleanor looked around the long table at the men and women who ran her company.

"My son Julian is currently sitting in a federal holding cell facing charges of attempted murder, corporate fraud, and grand larceny," Eleanor announced smoothly, placing her hands flat on the mahogany table. "All contracts signed by him in the last two years are officially null and void under corporate emergency statutes."

She turned her head, looking at Grant with deep, maternal pride.

"Effective immediately," Eleanor continued, "Grant Harrison is named sole CEO and Chairman of Harrison Plains."

The board members immediately broke into supportive nods and unanimous applause.

Eleanor raised her hand, silencing the room instantly.

"And lastly," Eleanor said, turning her bright blue eyes toward Willa, who sat quietly beside Grant. "I am establishing a fifty-million-dollar medical oversight foundation, fully funded by the recovered Apex assets. Its purpose will be to investigate medical corruption, protect whistleblowers, and ensure no patient is ever victimized by corporate greed."

Eleanor reached out, taking Willa’s hand in hers across the table.

"And I am appointing Willa Vance as the Chief Executive Director of that foundation, with full power of medical audit over every facility affiliated with our company."

Willa blinked, stunned. "Eleanor... I... I don't know what to say."

"You don't have to say anything, my dear," Eleanor said, her eyes warm with tears of profound gratitude. "You gave me back my life. Now it's time we give you back yours."
