Chapter 10 - The Unwritten Page

The sun sank lower over Charleston Harbor, painting the sky in brilliant strokes of amber, violet, and deep rose. The steeple of St. Gabriel’s rose in the distance, a quiet silhouette against the twilight.
Maeve walked back inside the house, closing the French doors softly behind her. The hardwood floors beneath her feet felt solid, permanent, and entirely her own.
Iris ran into the hallway, her face flushed with excitement, clutching a drawing she had made at school. "Look, Mommy! I drew our house!"
Maeve knelt down, taking the paper from her daughter's hands. At the top of the page, drawn in bright pink and purple crayon, was a grand house with large windows, blooming flowers in the yard, and two stick figures standing side by side beneath a bright yellow sun.
There was no empty space in the drawing. There was no missing mother. There was only the warm, unbreakable circle of a family built on truth, grace, and an unshakeable love that no church, no husband, and no society could ever take away.

And together, hand in hand, they walked down the sunlit hallway toward the heart of a home that belonged to them alone.
