Chapter 7 - The Collapse of Bennett Global

With Marjorie locked safely behind bars awaiting her criminal trial, the second phase of Daniel’s plan moved forward with terrifying, surgical speed.

Two weeks after the arraignment, the board of directors of Bennett Global Logistics convened an emergency meeting at the company's downtown headquarters.

Robert Bennett sat at the head of the long glass table, surrounded by twelve corporate directors, institutional investors, and legal representatives. He looked entirely broken—his company's stock had dropped forty percent in fourteen days due to the horrific publicity surrounding his wife's arrest and the impending federal tax investigation.

"Gentlemen," Robert said, his voice raspy and weak as he tried to adjust his tie. "I assure you that the personal matters involving my family have been contained. We are preparing a restructuring plan—"

The heavy oak door of the boardroom opened.

Daniel Bennett walked in.

He was flanked by Marcus Sterling and two senior field agents from the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division. Daniel wore a sharp dark suit, carrying a thick black leather briefcase.

The directors gasped, several of them standing up in surprise.

"Daniel?" Robert whispered, his eyes wide with disbelief. "What... what are you doing here?"

"I am here in my capacity as Chief Financial Auditor and whistleblower, Robert," Daniel said calmly, placing his briefcase on the center of the glass table and opening it.

He pulled out three bound stacks of financial ledgers, placing them directly in front of the board’s lead independent director.

"Over the last ten days," Daniel announced clearly, his voice projecting through the silent room, "I have completed a full forensic audit of Bennett Global’s executive disbursement accounts for the fiscal years 2021 through 2026."

Robert slammed his hands against the table. "Daniel, stop this! You are destroying your own family's heritage!"

"You destroyed it, Dad," Daniel said, looking his father directly in the eye without a shred of hesitation. "You sat by and allowed Mom to siphon four point two million dollars from the company's employee healthcare fund and charitable foundation to cover her personal credit cards, buy luxury real estate in Hawaii, and pay off Vanessa’s personal debts."

The lead director flipped through the pages, his face turning entirely white. "Good God... these receipts are signed by Robert Bennett."

"He co-signed every single illegal wire transfer," Daniel confirmed coldly. "To keep Marjorie happy. To keep her from screaming at him at the dinner table. He traded the financial stability of three hundred employees and their families just to buy peace in his own house."

The lead IRS agent stepped forward, pulling a federal document from his coat.

"Robert Bennett," the agent declared, "you are being served with a formal federal freeze order on all personal and corporate accounts associated with Bennett Global Logistics. You are ordered to step down from all administrative duties immediately."

Robert sank back into his leather chair, his mouth open, his chest heaving as if he couldn't get enough air.

The directors around the table didn't offer a single word of sympathy. One by one, they stood up, gathered their laptops, and walked out of the room, leaving Robert sitting alone at the head of the table.

Daniel stepped closer to his father, looking down at the man he had spent his entire life trying to respect.

"It's over, Dad," Daniel said softly. "The board is appointing an independent receiver tomorrow. The company will survive, the employees will keep their pensions, but you and Mom are going to pay back every single dollar you stole."

Robert looked up at his son, tears spilling down his wrinkled cheeks. "How can you be so cold, Daniel? We are your parents..."

May you like

"You were my parents," Daniel corrected, his voice quiet, steady, and utterly final. "But Claire and Sophie are my family. And you forced me to choose."

Daniel turned on his heel and walked out of the corporate office, leaving the wreckage of his father's empire behind him forever.
