Chapter 10 - Ever After

One year after their grand wedding at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Clara and Sebastian returned to New York for a special occasion.
They didn't arrive in a convoy of armored Maybachs or with police escorts. They walked hand-in-hand down a quiet street in Soho, dressed in simple coats, enjoying the crisp autumn air.
They stopped in front of a beautifully restored historic building. Above the doorway hung a sleek bronze plaque that read: THE HIGGINS-BEAUMONT RESTORATION & ART CENTER.
It was a state-of-the-art facility founded by Clara, dedicated to teaching underprivileged young artists the art of restoration, giving forgotten beauty a second chance at life.
As they stepped inside, old Mikhail was standing in the lobby, showing a group of young students how to apply gold leaf to an ancient wooden frame. When he saw Clara, his eyes lit up with joy.
"Ah! The Princess returns!" Mikhail cheered, walking over to give Clara a warm bear hug.
"Stop calling me that, Mikhail," Clara laughed, hugging him back tightly. "Here, I’m just Clara."
"You will always be a princess to us, Clara," Mikhail said proudly, wiping a tear from his eye.
That evening, a quiet gathering was held inside the center’s private gallery. There were no flashing paparazzi cameras, no superficial socialites, and no political games. Only true friends, artists, and family who loved them for who they were.
As the sun began to set over the Manhattan skyline, casting orange and purple hues across the Hudson River, Sebastian led Clara up to the rooftop garden.
They stood at the stone ledge, looking out over the city.
In the distance, the grand silhouette of the Plaza Hotel stood illuminated against the twilight sky. Three years ago, Clara had fled those doors believing her life was ruined, her dignity shattered, and her heart permanently broken.
She looked down at her hand. Alongside her vintage sapphire engagement ring now sat a delicate gold wedding band, gleaming warmly in the twilight.
Sebastian took her hand, weaving his fingers through hers.
"Any regrets?" he asked gently, looking at her with total devotion.
Clara turned to him, her eyes shining with absolute clarity and complete peace. She reached up, placed her hand against his cheek, and pulled him down into a soft, loving kiss.
"Not a single one," Clara whispered against his lips. "Every broken piece brought me right here to you."
