Chapter 7 - The Freezing of an Empire

The fallout was instantaneous. The news that Sarah Mitchell had survived an assassination attempt by her own husband sent shockwaves through the global financial markets. Mitchell Holdings' stock plummeted, only stabilizing when the board of directors held an emergency vote to strip Marcus of his CEO title and appoint Sarah as the interim chairwoman.
From her new office at the top of the Mitchell tower, Sarah looked out over the Seattle skyline. She was exhausted, her pregnant body aching from the lingering trauma of hypothermia, but her mind had never been sharper.
Arthur Pendelton walked in, handing her a folder. "The courts have officially frozen all of Marcus’s personal and corporate assets, Sarah. He can't even use his funds to pay his defense attorney. Sterling dropped him an hour ago."
"Good," Sarah said, signing a directive. "What about the asset recovery from Chloe Vance?"

"The penthouse, the offshore accounts, and the luxury vehicles have all been seized by the state," Arthur replied, looking at her with immense respect. "Your father would be so proud of you, Sarah. You saved this company. You saved your family."
"I haven't saved anything until Marcus is behind bars for the rest of his life," Sarah said, rubbing her stomach as she felt a strong, healthy kick. "The trial starts next month. I want to be ready."
