Chapter 10 - The Flower That Bloomed

One year later, on a crisp autumn morning, the sun rose over the Denver skyline, bathing the mountains in shades of gold and pink.

Ethan Vance walked through the quiet grounds of his home in the Colorado foothills. He was holding hands with Lily, who was now eight years old, carrying a small basket filled with fresh red roses cut from their private garden.

They walked to the edge of the meadow overlooking the valley, where a beautiful wooden arbor stood draped in blooming red climbing roses—a peaceful sanctuary built in memory of Sarah.

"Look, Daddy," Lily said, pointing to a young rose bush near the arbor. "That's the one we planted last winter."

Ethan knelt beside the bush. A single, perfect red rose was blooming at the top of a sturdy green stem. It was vibrant, strong, and unblemished, reaching toward the morning sun.

"It bloomed, sweetie," Ethan whispered, touching one of the soft petals gently.

"Lupita said if you treat things with patience, they stay alive longer than people expect," Lily recalled with a bright, innocent smile.

"Lupita was right," Ethan agreed, pulling his daughter close against his chest.

The winter storm in Chicago, the cold lobby, the bent stems, and the bitter insults felt like a lifetime ago now. The arrogance of men who thought they owned the world had been washed away, replaced by the enduring power of love, humility, and kindness.

Lily leaned her head against Ethan’s shoulder, just as she had done on that freezing night in the Grand Regent lobby.

"Daddy?"

"Yes, Lily?"

"Is Mommy happy?"

Ethan looked up at the vast blue sky, feeling the warm morning breeze whisper through the rose petals, carrying the sweet, unmistakable scent of home.

"Yes, baby," Ethan smiled, his heart finally whole, peaceful, and free. "Mommy is very happy. We brought her flowers, and they're blooming everywhere."
