Chapter 9 - The Final Reckoning

That night, the underworld of New York experienced a cleansing unlike anything in its history.
By midnight, Victor Rossi’s illegal operations across the five boroughs were completely dismantled by federal task forces supplied with anonymous, irrefutable evidence provided by Thorne Enterprises. Victor Rossi himself was arrested at the docks trying to flee the country with millions in stolen bearer bonds.
Arthur Vance, hiding in a dilapidated motel near the airport, was cornered by federal agents and local authorities. Realizing his life was completely ruined, he offered a full confession, exposing his family's corruption, Cordelia's assault, and their collusion with organized crime.
By sunrise, the Vance family name was wiped clean from high society, their fortunes seized, and their key figures behind bars.
Meanwhile, far away from the dark chaos of the city, peace had finally returned to the Thorne Estate.
Two months had passed since the incident on the bridge. Winter had arrived, covering the estate in a soft, pristine blanket of white snow.
Inside the master suite of the mansion, soft classical music played. A crackling fire in the hearth bathed the room in a warm, amber glow.
Della lay in the bed, looking exhausted but radiantly happy. Sitting beside her was Jaxson, holding a tiny, delicate bundle wrapped in a soft pink blanket.
A baby girl. Born healthy, weighing seven pounds, with a thick head of dark hair and dark, curious gray eyes that matched her father's.
"She's beautiful, Jaxson," Della whispered, reaching out to gently brush her finger against the baby's soft cheek.
Jaxson stared down at the tiny miracle in his hands, his eyes filled with a tenderness he had never known he possessed. The man who had ruled an empire with iron and blood felt completely overwhelmed by the tiny heartbeat resting in his palms.
"She looks like you," Jaxson said softly, looking up at Della. "She has your kindness."
Della smiled, leaning her head back against the plush pillows. "What should we name her?"
Jaxson set the baby gently into Della's arms, then reached into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. He sat on the edge of the bed, looking into Della's eyes with absolute devotion.
"Seven years ago, you gave me a second chance at life," Jaxson spoke, opening the box to reveal a stunning ring featuring a rare, crescent-cut pink diamond surrounded by flawless white stones.
"Two months ago, you gave me a reason to protect this world. And today, you gave me a family."
Jaxson took her hand—the hand with the crescent scar he loved so dearly—and held it gently.
"Della Marsh, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife? Will you let me love you, protect you, and cherish you for the rest of our lives?"
Tears of pure happiness overflowed from Della's eyes. She looked from the stunning ring to the man who had turned her darkest night into a life filled with endless light.

"Yes," Della cried softly, smiling through her tears. "Yes, Jaxson! A thousand times yes!"
Jaxson leaned in, pressing his lips to hers in a soft, passionate kiss that sealed their past, their present, and their eternal future.
