Chapter 9 - The Purge of the Mansion

Two weeks after the sentencing, Alejandro and Valeria returned to the Aranda mansion in Las Lomas one final time. The property had been stripped of its luxury by the federal asset liquidation team, leaving only empty rooms and the ghosts of Valeria's suffering.
They walked up the grand staircase together, their footsteps echoing off the bare granite walls. The white door with the golden moldings was gone, removed during the investigation.
They stood in the center of the master bedroom where Alejandro had violently ripped away the satin blanket three months prior. The room was empty, illuminated only by the soft gold of the setting sun filtering through the large windows.
"Are you sad to see it like this?" Valeria asked softly, her hand resting over her now heavily prominent eight-month belly. Her wrists were healed, leaving only faint, silvery scars that she no longer hid.
"No," Alejandro said, wrapping his arms around her from behind, resting his hands over hers on her stomach. "This house was built on old money, arrogance, and cruelty. My father thought he could protect us with clauses in a trust, but he didn't realize that the only true protection is the complete eradication of the threat."
"What will happen to the land?" she asked, leaning her head back against his chest.
"I bought it back from the liquidation auction through a private foundation," Alejandro revealed with a soft smile. "Tomorrow, a demolition crew is coming. We are tearing the entire mansion down to the foundation."
Valeria turned in his arms, her eyes wide with surprise. "Tearing it down? Alejandro, this land is worth tens of millions."
"And we are going to use it for something better," he said, kissing her nose. "We are building an open-air public art center and a specialized prenatal healthcare clinic for low-income mothers. The Aranda name will no longer be associated with exclusive luxury and hidden crimes. It will belong to the city."
Valeria’s eyes filled with tears, but for the first time in months, they were tears of pure joy. She buried her face in his neck. "Thank you, Alejandro. Thank you for listening to me when I finally had the strength to speak."

"Thank you for surviving, my love," he whispered into her hair. "You saved our child. You saved me from becoming like them."
As they walked out of the house together, the front gates closed behind them for the final time. The Aranda mansion was no longer a fortress of fear; it was just a piece of history waiting to be rewritten.
