Chapter 10 - The Sunlit Path

The sun was setting over the Atlantic Ocean, casting a brilliant golden light across the beach behind the Vance family's new coastal home in Maine.

The air was fresh, filled with the salty breeze and the soothing rhythm of crashing waves.

Lily walked along the water's edge, her bare feet sinking slightly into the wet sand. The ocean water washed over her ankles—cold, refreshing, and full of life. She didn't fear cold water anymore. To her, it was no longer a weapon of abuse; it was a reminder of the moment her life had been saved.

Around her neck hung the gold locket containing her mother's picture, sparkling against the evening light.

David walked beside her, carrying a blanket and a basket of fresh fruit for their evening picnic on the shore.

"Cold?" David asked with a warm smile, looking at her bare feet.

Lily laughed—a bright, ringing sound that filled the evening air. "Not at all, Dad. It feels amazing."

They spread the blanket out on a soft sand dune overlooking the horizon. Sitting side by side, they watched the sun dip below the ocean line, painting the clouds in shades of pink, orange, and purple.

"Are you happy, Lily?" David asked softly, looking at his daughter’s peaceful face.

Lily leaned her head against her father's shoulder, taking a deep, contented breath of the fresh sea air.

"I'm more than happy, Dad," Lily replied, closing her eyes as the warm breeze rustled her hair. "I'm free."

Hand in hand, father and daughter sat together on the quiet shore, surrounded by warmth, love, and an endless horizon of bright tomorrows.
