Chapter 10 - A NEW THANKSGIVING (EPILOGUE)

Eighteen months later.

The autumn leaves had turned to brilliant shades of crimson and gold across the North Shore estate.

It was Thanksgiving Day.

The long oak dining table in our sunlit dining room was decorated with fresh pinecones, white pumpkins, and warm candlelight. Surrounding the table were people who truly loved us—Marcus Vance and his wife, Thomas and his parents, several close friends from the foundation, and our devoted home staff who sat with us as family.

There was no tension in the air. No quiet cruelty disguised as politeness. No fear.

At the head of the table sat six-year-old Lily, wearing a bright yellow dress, her blonde hair styled in pretty braids, laughing merrily as Thomas’s mother showed her how to fold napkin swans.

Thomas stood up, holding his crystal glass, offering a warm smile to the gathered guests.

"To family," Thomas said softly, his eyes locking onto mine with deep, unwavering love. "Not the family we are born into by chance, but the family we choose through love, respect, and protection."

"To family!" the table chorused in warm unison.

I looked at Lily. She looked back at me, her big blue eyes sparkling with complete security. She knew that her world was safe. She knew that her mother was a fortress that no monster could ever break.

I took a slow, deep breath, feeling the warm sunshine streaming through the tall windows, illuminating our home in golden light.

The phone call in the snow was a distant memory. The Petersons were a forgotten shadow of a past life.

My daughter was safe. My heart was whole. And our real story was just beginning.
