Chapter 7 - The Ribbon Cutting

Eighteen months after the night at Rosewood Estate.

The sun shone brightly over the newly completed Montgomery Heritage Plaza in downtown Providence.

The sprawling development was a breathtaking architectural success: restored historic brick facades, soaring glass archways, public water fountains, blooming urban gardens, and vibrant commercial spaces filled with local shops, cafes, and community spaces.

Hundreds of city officials, business leaders, reporters, and local residents gathered in the central plaza for the grand opening ceremony.

Standing near the podium, wearing a stunning emerald-green dress, was my nine-year-old daughter, Chloe. Her dark curls fell past her shoulders, and in her hair was a small, sparkling silver bow—a gift from Logan for her ninth birthday.

Beside her stood Logan, looking handsome in a tailored navy suit, his hand resting affectionately on her shoulder as they laughed together over a drawing she had made in her sketchbook.

I stood behind the stage, reviewing the final event schedule with my assistant.

"Ten seconds to air, Mrs. Vance," the local television director signaled to me with his hand.

I smiled, took a deep breath, and walked onto the stage.

The applause that erupted across the crowded plaza was deafening. Reporters flashed cameras, local business owners cheered, and the Mayor of Providence stood up to applaud as I stepped up to the microphone.

"Good afternoon, everyone," I said, my voice smooth, confident, and echoing clearly across the sunlit plaza.

The crowd quieted down, looking up at me with profound respect.

"Two years ago," I began, looking out at the beautiful buildings we had constructed from the ground up, "I believed that my life was defined by the choices other people made for me. I believed that if I stayed quiet, stayed out of the way, and accepted the seat in the back row, I could keep the peace."

I looked down at the front row, meeting Logan’s warm, loving gaze, and then looking at Chloe, who was beaming with fierce, unstoppable pride.

"But real peace isn't found in silence," I continued, my voice ringing clear across the square. "Real peace is found in the courage to stand up for the truth—no matter how terrifying it may be. It is found in building something real, something honest, something that can stand against any storm."

I picked up the massive golden scissors resting on the velvet cushion beside the podium.

"I present to you the Montgomery Heritage Plaza," I declared proudly. "A place built on integrity, community, and the promise that everyone deserves a place in the light!"

I held out my hand to Chloe. She ran up the stage steps, her face radiant with joy, and placed her small hands over mine on the handles of the golden scissors.

Together, with a single, decisive cut, we sliced through the thick red silk ribbon.

The crowd exploded into thunderous applause, colorful confetti burst into the clear blue sky, and the public fountains sprang to life, casting brilliant rainbow reflections across the pristine stone plaza.
