Chapter 10 - The Legacy of Love

Five years later.
Autumn had arrived on Mercer Island, painting the towering oak trees in brilliant shades of crimson, gold, and deep bronze.
The sun was setting over Lake Washington, casting a warm, golden glow across the quiet waters.
On the back terrace of the mansion, a large wooden table was set for a family dinner.
Twelve-year-old Amy sat at the table, her laptop open, working on an advanced robotics project while Marcus sat beside her, patiently helping her calibrate a small drone. Marcus had long since retired from field operations, serving as the head of security for the Miller Foundation and Amy’s personal bodyguard.
Inside the glass sunroom, Ethan stood behind Sophie, his broad arms wrapped around her waist, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder.
Sophie was heavily pregnant with their second child—a baby boy due in three weeks.
"He's kicking again," Sophie whispered, smiling as she placed Ethan’s large hand over her rounded belly.
Ethan felt the firm, strong pulse of his unborn son kicking against his palm. He closed his eyes, letting out a long, contented breath that carried the peace of a man whose soul was completely healed.
The Cole Syndicate had transformed over the last five years. The dark, criminal violence of the past had been systematically replaced by legitimate corporate enterprises, maritime shipping lines, and massive philanthropic networks that protected the vulnerable across the country.
Seattle was safe. Their family was whole.
Amy closed her laptop and ran into the sunroom, holding a small silver tray with three mugs of hot chocolate.
"Hot cocoa time!" Amy announced happily, setting the tray on the glass table.
She looked at her parents—Ethan standing behind Sophie, his hands resting lovingly on her pregnant stomach, both of them looking at her with endless warmth.
"What are you two thinking about?" Amy asked, taking a sip from her mug.
Ethan walked over, taking a mug of cocoa, and wrapped his other arm around Sophie as she joined them by the window.
"I was thinking about a rainy afternoon six years ago," Ethan smiled softly, looking down at his daughter. "When a brave little girl walked into my office carrying a dirty cleaning rag and half a piece of toast."
Amy giggled, hugging her father’s waist. "I told you I knew how to clean!"
"You did," Ethan murmured, his voice thick with unshakeable love, kissing the top of her head before turning to kiss his wife's sweet lips. "You cleaned away all the darkness in my life."

Outside, the golden sunset faded into a peaceful night filled with ten thousand shining stars.
And inside the warm, safe fortress on Mercer Island, the family built on love, courage, and a tiny piece of toast slept peacefully, protected forever by the king who had claimed them as his own.
