Chapter 6 - THE SANCTUARY

The private medical facility operated by Marcus’s security firm was located in a discreet, unmarked brick building nestled in the quiet woods of Franklin, Tennessee.
It was a fully equipped, state-of-the-art trauma clinic designed to treat high-level private security personnel and international diplomats discreetly away from public hospital systems.
Inside a warm, sunlit private recovery suite, Emily lay on a soft bed, resting against three fluffy pillows.
Her broken arm was encased in a lightweight fiberglass cast. Her facial wounds had been meticulously cleaned and treated by a elite plastic surgeon who ensured no permanent scarring would remain. An IV drip was gently delivering pain medication and fluids into her arm.
Sitting in a comfortable armchair beside her bed was her father.
Richard had removed his canvas jacket and holstered sidearm, sitting in a simple sweater, holding a warm cup of chamomile tea in his hands. He looked younger, softer—the terrifying combat commander replaced once again by a loving, protective father.
Emily stirred softly, opening her uninjured right eye.
"Dad...?" she whispered.
Richard immediately set his tea cup down and took her small, delicate hand into his large, calloused palms. "I’m right here, sweetheart. You’re safe."
Emily looked around the peaceful room, listening to the soft, rhythmic hum of the heart monitor. Tears welled up in her eye, spilling down her cheek.
"Is he... is he coming here?" she asked, her voice trembling with residual fear.
"Ethan will never come near you again, Emily," Richard said, his voice firm and absolute. "He is currently sitting in a holding facility surrounded by federal marshals. The Department of Justice unsealed thirty-two felony indictments against him an hour ago."
Emily blinked in shock. "Federal marshals...?"
"His entire financial network was exposed," Richard explained gently. "His company has collapsed. The evidence of his domestic violence has been submitted directly to the District Attorney's office. He is facing up to forty years in federal prison without the possibility of parole."
Emily let out a long, shuddering breath—a breath she felt like she had been holding for six agonizing years.
"I was so scared, Dad," she sobbed, squeezing his fingers with all her remaining strength. "He made me feel like I was crazy... like everything was my fault. Every time he hurt me, he told me that if I told anyone, he’d use his money to destroy you... he said he’d hire people to ruin your reputation..."
Richard leaned forward, pressing his forehead gently against her knuckles.
"Sweetheart," Richard whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "No amount of money in the world could ever protect that coward from me. You are my daughter. There is no force on this earth that could ever stop me from coming to get you."
The door to the recovery room clicked open quietly.
Marcus Vance stepped inside, holding a thin leather folder under his arm. He offered Emily a warm, respectful nod before looking at Richard.
"Colonel," Marcus said softly. "The legal team is here. The emergency divorce filings and protective orders have been signed by a federal judge. It’s officially done."
Emily looked at the folder, then up at her father. A small, tentative, but truly genuine smile broke across her battered face for the first time in years.

"Dad," she whispered. "Can we go home now?"
Richard smiled back, kissing her forehead. "Yes, baby. We’re going home."
