Chapter 4 - THE PRIVATE ARMY

The front double doors—already splintered from Richard’s kick—were thrown wide open.

Six tall, heavily built men dressed in dark gray tactical attire, carrying tactical medical kits and hard-shell transport cases, swept into the mansion’s foyer. They moved with absolute military precision, covering angles, clearing corners, and securing the stairs in seconds.

At the head of the team was Marcus Vance.

Marcus looked up the grand staircase, his sharp eyes taking in the scene instantly: Richard standing tall, Emily injured on the floor, and Ethan cowering near the master bedroom.

"Perimeter secure, Colonel," Marcus called up, his deep voice carrying over the blaring fire alarms. "We have jammed all outbound cellular, Wi-Fi, and landline signals across the entire square mile. No data is leaving this house."

Ethan’s face went completely drain-pipe white. "What is this?! Who are these people?!"

"This is my unit, Ethan," Richard said coldly, kneeling down beside Emily. "The men you said didn't exist."

Two tactical medics sprinted up the stairs, immediately kneeling beside Emily. One opened a comprehensive medical trauma kit while the other gently placed an inflatable splint around her fractured forearm, providing immediate pain relief medication through an auto-injector.

"She has two broken ribs, a hairline fracture in her wrist, and severe soft-tissue facial trauma," the lead medic reported to Richard after a ninety-second examination. "We need to get her to our private clinic for X-rays and surgical cleanup."

"Do it," Richard ordered gently, kissing Emily’s forehead. "Sweetheart, I need you to go with these men. They work for me. They’re going to take care of you."

"Dad..." Emily whispered, holding his sleeve. "Don't... don't do something that ruins your life... he's not worth it..."

"My life isn't ruined, Emily," Richard smiled softly, wiping a drop of blood from her temple. "My life is just beginning. Go."

The medics carefully lifted Emily onto a lightweight, folding transport chair and carried her safely down the stairs, flanked by two armed escorts.

Within two minutes, the hallway was silent once more, save for the dripping water from the ceiling sprinklers and the quiet breathing of the two men left upstairs.

Ethan was backed up against the wall, his hands shaking so violently he could barely hold himself upright. The arrogance that had fueled him five minutes ago had dissolved into sheer, unadulterated panic.

"You can't do this..." Ethan whimpered. "This is kidnapping! This is domestic terrorism! The FBI will track you down!"

"The FBI?" Richard stepped closer, pulling a small silver flash drive from his jacket pocket. "Marcus’s cyber-team spent the last fifteen minutes inside your company’s internal network while your security firewall was down. Do you know what they found on your private servers, Ethan?"

Ethan froze, his eyes bulging out of his head.

"They found the secondary ledger," Richard revealed, his voice a low, gravelly whisper. "The hidden backdoors you built into your cybersecurity software to sell private client data to foreign offshore shell companies. Three hundred million dollars in illicit wire transfers routed through the Cayman Islands."

Ethan let out a choked, wet gasp. "That... that’s proprietary corporate data..."

"That is treason, tax fraud, and corporate espionage," Richard corrected. "You thought you were a genius, Ethan. You thought because you sat in a marble office and wore three-thousand-dollar suits, nobody could touch you. But you forgot one simple rule."

Richard leaned in until he was inches from Ethan’s terrified face.

"When you abuse a soldier's daughter... you don't just fight her. You fight every man who ever served alongside her father."
