Chapter 7 - The Healing at First Hill

Three months later.

Spring had finally arrived in the Pacific Northwest. The dark, brutal blizzard of December had given way to warm sunlight, clear blue skies, and blooming pink cherry blossoms across the grounds of the First Hill estate.

On the grand back patio overlooking the manicured gardens, a large wooden dining table was set for an informal weekend lunch.

Clara sat in a comfortable wicker chair, holding a steaming cup of chamomile tea. She looked healthy, vibrant, and radiantly beautiful. Her skin had recovered its natural golden glow, her weight was restored, and her grey eyes sparkled with peace and confidence.

She had been officially exonerated by the Federal District Court. Victor Sterling and Arthur Pendelton were currently awaiting trial in federal custody on charges of corporate espionage, wire fraud, and attempted murder by endangerment.

Furthermore, the board of directors had unanimously voted to name Dr. Clara Vance as the Chief Scientific Officer of Harrison Medical, granting her complete, unencumbered control over the redevelopment of Aegis-9—which her team had successfully modified to remove all toxic side effects.

From inside the house, six-year-old Olivia came running out onto the patio, holding a small plush bunny.

"Clara! Look!" Olivia squealed, running over to Clara’s chair. "Maya smiled at me! She did a real smile!"

In a white wicker bassinet beside Clara, six-month-old Maya lay kicking her tiny feet, letting out a soft, bubbling giggle as Olivia waved the plush bunny over her head.

Clara laughed, leaning down to kiss Olivia’s forehead. "She smiles because she loves you, Olivia. You're her big sister."

Olivia beamed with immense pride, carefully placing the plush bunny inside the bassinet beside Maya’s small hand.

Michael walked out onto the patio from his study, wearing a relaxed white linen shirt and jeans instead of his usual corporate suit. He carried a tray with fresh fruit, warm croissants, and orange juice.

He set the tray on the table, walked over to Clara’s chair, and stood behind her, resting his broad hands gently on her shoulders.

Clara leaned her head back, looking up at him with a warm, intimate smile. "You're late for lunch, Mr. CEO."

"I was finishing the paperwork for the foundation," Michael smiled, leaning down to kiss the top of her head.

Together, Michael and Clara had established the Olivia & Maya Foundation for Unsheltered Families, endowing it with fifty million dollars to construct safe, heated residential sanctuaries and medical care facilities for homeless mothers and children throughout the Pacific Northwest.

"Daddy," Olivia said, tugging on Michael’s sleeve. "Are we going to the park today?"

Michael knelt down, catching his daughter in a warm, tight hug. "We can go anywhere you want, sweetie. What do you want to do?"

Olivia looked at Clara, then at baby Maya, and finally back at her father. Her small face lit up with the simple, profound wisdom that only a child possessed.

"I want us to stay right here," Olivia said softly, wrapping her tiny arms around Michael’s neck. "Because everyone is warm now."

Michael looked up at Clara, meeting her grey eyes, seeing in them a future filled with boundless love, trust, and shared purpose.

He pulled Clara into the embrace, holding his family tight under the warm spring sun, knowing that the storm was over, and they were finally home.
