Chapter 8 - Rebuilding the Ruins

With the Vance family permanently removed from the picture, I poured all my energy into rebuilding Vance Enterprise. The company had been hollowed out by years of my father’s terrible management and corruption, but under my leadership—and with Blake’s infinite resources backing me—we turned it around within months.
We rebranded the company as Vance-Campbell Logistics, shifting the focus from outdated shipping methods to green, sustainable maritime transport. The market responded with overwhelming enthusiasm. Our stock prices soared to historic highs, completely eclipsing the valuation from my father’s era.
One evening, I was late working in my new executive corner office, reviewing the quarterly earnings reports. The city lights of Miami danced across the glass walls, a beautiful tapestry of gold and blue.
A soft knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. Blake walked in, carrying a takeout box from my favorite local Italian restaurant. He had shed his suit jacket, his white shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows, looking relaxed and devastatingly handsome.
"You're working too hard, CEO," he said with a soft smile, setting the food down on my desk.
"I learned from the best," I replied, closing my laptop and leaning back in my chair. "Look at these numbers, Blake. We did it. The company is completely stable, and the old Vance debt is entirely wiped out."
Blake walked around the desk, standing right behind my chair. He placed his hands on my shoulders, his strong fingers gently massaging away the tension that had gathered there. "Correction, Clara. You did it. I just provided the capital. You provided the vision and the strength."
I leaned my head back, looking up at him. "Our two-year contract timeline would have been halfway over by now."
May you like
Blake stopped massaging my shoulders, his hands sliding down to frame my face. He leaned down, his eyes dark with a profound, consuming tenderness. "The contract has been dead for months, Clara. I don't want a business partner. I want you. Forever. When this chaotic year finally ends, I want to give you the wedding you actually deserve. No fountains, no toxic guests. Just you, me, and a real promise."
Tears, this time of pure happiness, welled up in my eyes. "I would love that, Blake."
