Chapter 6 - The Public Reckoning

The next morning, the grand ballroom of the Four Seasons Miami was packed with every major news network in the country. The air was electric with anticipation. My family had front-row seats to the broadcast from their rented, cramped apartment, confident that this would be the day Blake Campbell fell from grace.

Blake and I walked onto the stage hand-in-hand. I wore a stunning, emerald-green gown that radiated confidence, while Blake looked impeccable in a black tuxedo. We sat across from Evelyn Ross, the most ruthless investigative journalist in the city.

"Mr. Campbell, Mrs. Campbell," Evelyn began, leaning forward with a sharp smile. "The documents leaked to the public suggest your marriage is nothing more than a legal sham to secure your grandfather's inheritance. How do you respond to allegations of corporate fraud?"

Blake smiled, a cold, confident expression that made the journalist pause.

"Evelyn, the document leaked by the desperate, bankrupt Vance family was indeed an early draft of a prenuptial agreement," Blake explained smoothly. "A common practice among families of wealth. However, what they failed to acquire was our official, finalized marriage filing from three months ago."

Blake nodded to the massive screen behind us. An image appeared—not of a contract, but of a certified, unredacted marriage certificate, alongside medical records and photographic evidence of our private life over the past months, carefully curated to show a deeply committed couple.

"But more importantly," Blake continued, turning to look at me, his expression softening into an expression of pure devotion that could not be faked. "I would like to introduce the executors of my grandfather’s estate, who are sitting right there in the front row. They have spent the last forty-eight hours auditing our personal and financial lives, and they have verified our union as completely valid."

The lead executor, an elderly, respected judge, stood up and nodded firmly to the cameras.

I took the microphone, looking directly into the main camera lens, knowing my father and sister were watching. "My family tried to destroy me because I refused to let them exploit me any longer. They used my wedding day absence to publicly humiliate me. But the truth always surfaces. To Richard and Penelope Vance: your malice has only served to show the world who you truly are. And now, the law will handle the rest."

Evelyn Ross looked stunned. "The law, Mrs. Campbell?"

May you like

"Yes," I said calmly. "We have filed a multi-million-dollar defamation and corporate espionage lawsuit against Richard and Penelope Vance for leaking altered legal documents in an attempt to manipulate the stock of Vance Enterprise. The police are executing the arrest warrants as we speak."

The ballroom erupted into a frenzy of camera flashes. The counterattack was over, and my family’s fate was sealed.
